I think your neighbours could have a word with your local police just to let them know whats going on , you could back them up as a witness.Maybe they could note her calls as nuisence and not have to keep responding.
Some people just cannot accept outsiders.
I had a customer at the shop I managed he was a lovely old bloke (i thought) then one day I was shopping with my daughter when we bumped into him and he overheard us speaking English, that man never spoke to me again and when I said hello would look straight through me.
Sad but its his choice.I have spoke to an officer today and he says that her age is irrelevant. She has broken the law by saying 'You shouldn't be living here because your black'. Also it can be deemed as racial harassment. He is going to see the Thai family and have a chat with them.
Some of the oldie's just get so set in their ways they don't realise that new laws have been introduced that stops that kind of talk. She thinks she can just carry on being a bigot. He is going to tell them to make a note of every time she approaches the children to build a case then he will pay her a visit for a 'friendly warning'.
I was out shoppping with some Turkish friends who had relatives over last year. They couldn't speak English so my friend and i were talking in English and then she would translate to her family in Turkish. Some interfering old busy body in a cafe came over and told them that they should only speak English when in England. I told her to *uc* off and mind her own business.

I have the feeling that this will probably do nothing more than confirm to the old woman that the law favours immigrants over natives. Still, it might make her think before she starts shooting her mouth off again.

If you were to say that it's right for her to be upset about immigrants living next door to her in what she see's as a 'White area', you would be called a rascist. If you condemn her for being a bigoted nasty old witch, then your condemned for having no sympathy for an 85 yr old. I have seen her in action, and i've no sympathy for her.
When Pete went to talk to her, she was quite adamnat abou 'these blacks taking our houses' so from that, i take her to be rascist and her age irrelevant.

Personally, I believe that we should all have the right to hold whatever opinions we wish to and be able to discuss it openly. On the other hand, I don't believe that we have the right to 'force' our opinion onto others.

Yes, she is entitled to an opinion of course but when she says to a five year old child 'when are you going back to your own country', i find that obnoxious. The children are 5, 8 and 9 years old. They don't understand.
Why should this woman taint their lives and make their lives a misery?
I have seen home video's of the area of Thailand that they lived in and i think they are mad wanting to live in this shyte hole of a country.

Well, let's hope the policeman has the desired effect.
Now, I think this country is beautiful. Of course, there are many that don't appreciate it and close up, the effect is ugly. But then there are many humans around the world who don't appreciate the Earth.

Very true..... but i must say that parts of Thailand are so beautiful and life just seems so much easier there than here.

That is terribly cruel! It makes me wonder what could make the old lady make such an obviously hurtful remark to a child.

I just found out this morning, well really last night that a woman around the corner is technically insane...my friends gave me the lowdown this morning. She came to our house at 11:30pm last night demanding an apology...I was half dead asleep. I made my son apologize to her bratty 10yr old & told her point blank that none of the teens like him (he's 9). They are older by 5 yrs btw, to get off my property, threatened to call 911 & then slammed the door on her ugly face.

It is cruel isn't it? The little girl just doesn't understand either. From the conversation my husband had with her, he gets the impression that as she has lived in an 'all white' area for donkey's years, she see's the immigrants as 'intruders'. That in my opinion is a rascist view. My concern is that adults can deal with rascism but small children don't understand it.

I'd call the police as well at 11.30 at night !!! Mind you, here you'd wait up to four hours for the police to attend :wah:

I live in a mixed neighborhood and yes, children don't understand it unless they are taught it. We get along with most neighbors black/white. I would say out of Quin's friends...4 are white & 6 are black. They have a great time together.

I would say out of the 150 kids, there are very very few muslim but i have never seen a black child and the three Thai kids are the only Orientals there. Maybe this adds to the old womans discontent, that it is a predominantly 'white' area. Yet in the city, most schools are predominantly black and Asian. I don't care...... Kids are kids.

Ours would be here in 2 min flat. In fact I'm about to call our chief and ask him if he's had complaints against her in the past. Darn I missed him by 15 min.:-5

Young children take things at face value. They learn prejudice from adults and older teenagers.

Too true, when what we should be teaching them is compassion and acceptance.

How do you teach compassion and acceptance to a bigoted old woman who spouts her venom at the children at any given opportunity/
I have noticed that the 3 Thai kids are probably the most popular kids in our area and at the school so they are not getting prejudice from the other kids.

It is well known that the older a person gets, the harder it is for them to take in new or different ideas/concepts.

I wasn't suggesting that you can, I'd get my kids to avoid her if she is spouting rascist bile.
My point was in reply to what OM said Young children take things at face value. They learn prejudice from adults and older teenagers.

That just reeks of bane and spite the way you say it. Nomad..... The subject of the thread is about what i consider to be rascist remarks made to Thai kids by an English woman. If i did not mention that the kids were Thai, anyone reading the thread would not get the grasp of why her comments such as 'when are you going back to your own country', as being offensive. If i just used the words 'kids' and omitted the word 'Thai', it could be confused as to what kids out of many in the school that i am actually refering to.
