We keep a long bloody great lump of wood behind our door and another in the bedroom. We know that if anyone breaks in, there is virtually no chance, they are going to have a gun. They may have a lump of wood to defend they're selves with.

The next thing would be to ring the cops and tell them that robbers were in the area....I don't get the justification for shooting someone in the back. Unless you see yourself as a self appointed vigilante of course. I can see the argument for having a defensive weapon, and in this instance, as a defensive weapon, it worked perfectly. It scared them off. Pizza guy then IMO made himself judge, jury, and executioner, by firing.
