The only thing a discerning poster fears while honing a reply is that the thread might now no longer benefit from what he's crafting.

Who is ashamed to seek advice, even from a troll? Every post is an opportunity to learn something new.

I used to take on trust a newbie's intentions after having listened to his words. Now having listened to a newbie's words I go on to observe their consequences. It was on account of visiting administrators that I have changed in this respect.

Ah...
On the open board the administrator is disengaged and uncontentious. In the moderator forum he is fluent and flexible.

Crazygal started a thread about Chinese Proverbs. We've been exploring them. They seem to each have several messages bound into one snapshot. They never lie. Around each spoken proverb there is an unspoken one waiting to be heard. Within the honey are crystals with entirely distinct flavours.

The Tao impales herself on the Confucian pulse, expanding his penetration with her wetness. Continued practice is called for.

In his posts the discerning poster is not invariably for or against any fixed position. He is on the side of what is moral.

A discussion of postcount and popularity in the context of posting stands in the same relation as would discussion of the water closet and septic tank in the context of dining.

spot once said 'If anyone can, while dressed in a much-worn anorak loosely stuffed with cotton filler, stand beside a woman wearing a fleece-lined Goretex hoodie without feeling ashamed, it is I suppose koan. Neither envious nor covetous, how can she be anything but good?'. Thereafter many people sought out such anoraks in thrift shops.
spot commented ruefully 'I wasn't exacly providing a guide to instant karma when I said that'.

Guppy asked how to post without annoying anyone. A discerning poster answered saying "If you are conscientious in your fact-checking and post with singleminded politeness, then even in the most contentious threads you will post without annoying anyone. But if you fail to be conscientious in your fact-checking or you post with a callous disregard for the feeling of others then how can you hope to post, even in threads you yourself started, without annoying anyone? When you post you should have this ideal in front of you, and when you reply in a thread it should be at the forefront of your mind. Only then are you sure to post without annoying anyone". Guppy wrote this down on a sticky label and affixed it to her monitor.

Nomad contributed posts to a thread. When he ended with a period spot prefaced his reply "you stated", when he ended with a question mark spot prefaced his reply "you enquired", when he ended with an exclamation mark spot prefaced his reply "you exclaimed". Others asked spot whether he was being playful. "With Nomad such pedantry is always necessary", he answered.

There's a check you can make on anything from russian roulette to posting on ForumGarden:Danger = (probability of annoying someone) x (potential damage they can inflict when roused)bearing which in mind, I apologise for tweaking Guppy's tail.
