And Janus, because I was born in January, which is named after the Roman god Janus. Here is what a mythology site has to say about Janus...

Janus is the Roman god of gates and doors (ianua), beginnings and endings, and hence represented with a double-faced head, each looking in opposite directions. So you see, My name means lots of things.

I'm so glad you explained that Huge!!!! When I first met you - and before I realised you were well-related.. grin - I thought you'd spilled over, so to speak, from one of the kids' forums. All on accounta the name! They all seem to have huge somethings in those chatspots and it's not brains. I'm glad I was wrong. Also, of course, your posts were very much not monosyllabic grunts either. (Pam breaks into a massed choir chorus in deepest Welsh concerning how green was her unrefrigerated butter).

They are indeed. Grin. Typical English schoolboys. Actually, I have rellies whose sons attended Christ's Hospital School in Sussex and this is their uniform!!! Amazing.

Here in America, most kids wear low rise jeans with a belly shirt.

More of their bodies are exposed than covered!

Oh my gosh! They would revolt again to wear uniforms like that here. But I do prefer uniforms in public schools, it is not a popular idea though for the majority of schools.

Y'know, Chons, there is something to be said for uniforms. It takes away the social pressure for kids to have the 'latest, greatest' clothing. It removes peer pressure in the area of appearance.

And that is a good thing.

My kids all went to a school that had a uniform, though a bit less intimidating than the bluecoats. I think it was a great idea. Avoided all the pain of whether you looked cooler than everyone else. Also much quicker to get into in the morning. And when they got home they could then put on low rise jeans and revealing tops. Kinda like work clothes and play clothes.

This crossed with your post Cher. My kids went to a mix of public and private schools. I think almost all aussie schools have uniforms.

The school I taught at in California had uniforms, blue pants/skirts, white blouses/shirts. It was a positive thing. I always wore one too, and added a fashion item to it, so the girls would get ideas hot to look pretty wearing a uniform. A lovely scarf, some brooches, something to frill it up. Made going to work easy for me! About 1/2 of the teachers wore the uniform too.
