Spot and Floppy great posts. I accept the reality of God I have no idea as to what comes after death. Furthermore It is not for me to know. I try to follow the teachings of Jesus. As for fundamentalism, been there, done that and found it evil. I accept the reality of Gof and know nothing of heaven or hell. I trust God. I do not believe that Jesus was God. I think Jesus was a powerful man not in any mystical sense. We have had all kinds of powerful men, Ghandi one of them. The word often used in the Bible is "fear God. The word fear there means revere. If God is love then why do I need to "fear Him". I personally do not believe that God or Satan for that matter are beings. We speak of the spirit of Christmas or the spirit of easter and many other sprites. there are some 22000 variations on the theme of Christianity and many of them clain to have the sole handle on the truth. That is a joke. My feeling is I trust in God and all the dogma and doctrine are just confusing.

This raises the question as to what does the word "spirit" mean.

Only 3! Can one drive from one to the other or does one have to take a plane. That leads me to think about the "new Jerusalem" coming down out of the sky. I do hope it comes with good infrastructure I like to watch ch. 5.

Fundamentalism just means that they actually believe what the Bible says. It's not the same as legalistic Christianity that you despise. I despise that also. The Bible clearly says that Jesus Christ is God. How can you call yourself a Christian and not believe in any of the basic teachings of Christianity?

That is an easy question. I, with God's help follow the teachings of Jesus. In logic one cannot affirm oneself. Fundamentalists pick and choose but don't admit that and yes I do. What I do is what I am. Classic example You speak of killing certain people but clearly the Bible does tell us that is wrong. I could list dozens of others. No sir do not speak of anyone being Christian as you have no idea. The Bible also supports genocide.

You will only see it if you place your FAITH in Jesus Christ for salvation, believing in your heart that He died on the cross and rose from the dead for your sins. Have you done that?

That's because it was God's will that He die for our sins. But Jesus also commands His disciples to sell their cloak and buy a sword for protection.

I have no real problem with most of the philosophies attributed to the fictional character known as Jesus. That is just plain Humanism. It is also the Politics of Socialism. It has nothing to do with any imagined deification. Ghandi, for instance taught exactly the same sort of thing - as did the Dali Lama. People have followed the same philosophies long before & since, right away across the cultural board.

You do not believe that the sun stood still because you don't believe what the Bible says. You call Joshua a murderer who was doing the will of God because you don't believe the Bible. I don't pick and choose literal events and explain them away when they are clearly described in the Bible. If something is figurative, it will many times say so and explain it afterward. Jesus explained His parables. There is no other interpretation of that passage other than to believe that the sun stood still. Love your enemies is a literal statement as well. It's not midrash, that didn't come out until 1000 years after the Bible was completed and I told you that. You are trying to be your own God by determining for yourself what the Bible says and means rather than taking it for what it actually says and conforming to it.

This was a time of war. "Thou shalt not kill" is referring to in normal living. It's not a sin to go to war. Again, you are judging God and thinking that you know better than He does. There is a reason that God commanded that by the way. It was a special circumstance because God was giving Israel that land to live and He knew that those children would grow up and either seek revenge or lead Israel to worshiping false gods which is what actually happened. Israel many times didn't obey God in this matter and paid the price deeply later for it. They kept the women so that they would have someone to take care of them rather than leaving them to die. The culture of that day was completely different than it was today.

It all began with the story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. God created them perfect, there was no death or sorrow. God told them not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They disobeyed God and as a result, sin entered into the world. The pain, which this world sees, is the result of sin.Â*

2. Because of our sins, we die both spiritually and physically, but God sent His Son to die so that you can have a chance not to have to go to hell by accepting what He did on the cross:

Ro 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Ro 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. for us."

Every person who has ever lived is a sinner and is not righteous because we do bad things. A sin is a crime against God, just as if you steal something at the store, it is punishable by going to jail. It's the same thing with sin. Lying, stealing, sex before marriage, pride, hatred, ect. are all sins. Hell is a prison for those who commit crimes against God. Thatâ€™s because you must be perfect in order to get to heaven. No matter how well you live your life from then on, you have already sinned, which will be punished if you are not pardoned. If you commit a crime, and then live as a good citizen you still will go to jail for the crime you committed. Right? Just as the President can pardon a crime so you won't go to jail, Jesus can pardon your sins so that you do not go to hell, and can go to heaven when you die. You wonâ€™t have to pay for your own sins because Jesus already did that for you. But if you reject the pardon that He offers, you will have to pay for your own sins by going to hell.

3. If you will confess Jesus Christ is the Lord, place your Faith in Him and Believe in your heart that He died and rose again for your sins, you will be saved (from hell).

Eph 2:8,9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Ro 10:9,10 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.."

You cannot get to heaven by being a good person, going to church, baptism or any other way other than by turning to Jesus, believing in your heart that He died on the cross and rose from the dead for your sins and placing your Faith in Him. While these are good things to do, some people believe that they will get to heaven, but the bible says that there is only one way to heaven and that is through trusting in what Jesus Christ did on the cross for you in faith.

Will you do that today? If you will, you can be 100% sure that you will go to heaven when you die.

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS AND ROSE FROM THE DEAD FOR YOUR SINS? ARE YOU WILLING TO PLACE YOUR FAITH IN HIM FOR SALVATION?Â*

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

4. If you want to accept Jesus free gift of salvation, or if you have any doubts about whether or not you are going to heaven, you could place your faith in Jesus Christ for salvation by praying a simple prayer:

â€Dear Lord Jesus I believe that You are the Lord and believe in my heart that You died on the Cross and Rose from the dead for my sins. I repent and turn to You, placing my Faith in You as Lord of my life, Please save me and I thank You for it, in Jesus holy name, Amen.â€

If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ and meant it with all of your heart, you are now a child of God and will go to heaven. Now that you are on your way to heaven, you should attend a bible believing church and follow in baptism.

Sorry, mate, but the written compilation of Midrash began in the 1st and 2nd Century AD, and the Bible was hardly "Completed" in 90 AD .

The first documented evidence of anything close to "the Bible" appears to be the Codex Sinaiticus, which is dated 3rd Century.

"The Bible" as understood today did not exist until the 4th Century.

And God will judge by one's heart, not by words in a book.

You're right, my mistake, it came about in the 2nd Century AD, 100 years AFTER the Bible was completed in AD 90. The early Church writings affirm the age of the Biblical writings. Even most liberal scholars agree with this. You are just plain wrong. Even secular Wikipedia disagrees with you. The Bible was written by the actual eyewitnesses to the events.

The Christmas Story was written by actual eyewitnesses who knew Jesus personally. Midrash wasn't even invented until 100 years after the bible was completed. It also had no influence on the Bible. Someone has brainwashed you well.

That cannot be supported by any legitimates outside the mind of ignorance. I asked a Jewish scholar, since the book was written by Jews and confirmed thatr the Christmas story is purely Midrash. I also got the same response from honest Christian scholars. The fundies don't like that because they are not interested in the historical truth just ferry tales.

I said that they knew Jesus personally and they ALL did. They were eyewitnesses in that they actually KNEW Jesus personally on the earth.
