Back in the 70's Mayor Dianne Feinstein (now Senator Feinstein) was the mayor that originally started that gun ban. I helped to circulate a petition to recall her. We did not win. But my point is that I have been against the gun ban since it's inception. All the criminals already have guns so I don't see any need to take them away from law abiding citizens.

This is why i think Britain will always be anti-gun. The criminals don't have them so the law abiders don't need them to protect themselves. It is extremely rare here for gun crime. The odd few are sensationalised my the media simply beacuse it is so rare.

We had an armed hold up recently where armed robbers held up a security van full of money. The moment one of them drew his gun, armed police shot them dead. I think it's a fair balance. The only one's who do arm themselves in robbery are like i have just mentioned, but that's not because they know everyone has a gun, they know if they are caught, the police are armed. Luckily it's rare and our armed police do a good job. Everyone here is under no misconception that if you point a gun at anyone, the armed police come in automatically and they will take no prisoners, they will be shot dead on the spot. It kind of puts you off pulling an armed bank raid here.

Oh, and the press plastered their dead bodie's all over the papers just as a deterent.

I think the point is that there would be no innocent bystanders. If a thief knows that everyone in a bank is armed, he/she won't rob the bank.

Criminals always will try to hit an easy target....always. A bank full of "guns" is not an easy target. A bank full of unarmed defenseless people and tellers....now that is an easy mark. Go in with a gang ....hop the counter....take the money...job done. Easy money.

There have been many take over robberies here in the bay area lately. Restaurants, bars and banks. If just one or two of those robberies ended with the robbers being taken out by armed patrons....guess how fast it would stop happening?

The police can't always be everywhere at the same time. A gang of bank robbers can be in and out of a bank in less than a minute. Can the police get there in less than a minute? Our armed police do a good job too....but the robbers are quick and gone by the time they get there.

I think because we don't have guns, it is extremely hard to get them. Therefore they have to be brought in. We do have good police intelligence here that will track a gun if they know it's arrived and then intercept a robbery or track known robbers. That dept is called 'The flying squad'.

Of course, they don't get there quick enough all the time. Once anyone hits a panic button in a bank, it's automatically armed police that will attend not the usual plod.

What is more common here, is actually trigger happy armed cops panicking. Then there's big enquirey's over it.

Unfortunately, the biggest threat to the UK is AL_Queada. All armed suspects are viewed as potential terrorists and shot dead without question.

Bad really, in some cases.

Well I think it is a good system to shoot armed suspects without question....after all they are armed. An armed suspect is not an innocent victim. Don't get me wrong....I don't like the idea of killing people. But I think criminals who threaten with a gun...really... it's ok just to shoot them. It's better than letting criminals kill innocent citizens.

That's the way our cops see it. Guns are against the law . if they got them, the police shoot no questions asked.

They opened fire on a busy tube train and he was innocent..... awfull:(

That is a very sad story. Well no system can be perfect. There will always be some human error. There is always a downside. But I think if criminals think the risk is high, they will think twice before setting out to commit a crime.

Californians are raging mad. The new wave of anti-incumbent voters...hopefully will flush out some of the debris from Congress. Then it may be possible to get a fresh start and actually repair some of the damage done over the last few years. I think it will be the new Congress persons that do the drilling. As the old ones are going to be voted out. And they will get those drills fired up fast....before the next election.
