I was standing in the shower, minding my own business, Hamster and my ears suddenly started burning... so I popped back in here in me jarmies to see what the heck was going on!!

And I shall go to dreamland a much happier gal, knowing that you, Unk, are not thusly inconvenienced.... giggle. My grandma used to tell me that sitting on a cold stone step could cause trouble in one's afteryears (which is how she euphemised the complaint which you do not have even in your beforeyears)

I haven't been on for two days because of work, so I thought I'd post some observations after catching up on this thread:

1) Floppy, I commend you for your astute comments about our friend Spot. I think they were right on the money.

2) Val, ditto.

3) Spot, I have enjoyed our friendship, but please ponder the comments of my two friends above. They make sense.

4) Clancy, is there any way I can cut to the front of the Marriage Line with you? You are very dear to me. :-4

5) Uncle Kram, I wanna fly KramAir too! (great word, by the way)

6) Guppy, no one thinks you are a troll. You are quite lovely!

7) Hammie, your new avatar picture is gorgeous! The FG men should be hitting on you more than ever now!

8) I feel Forum Garden is much more of a community than a clique. Most of the stronger personalities here "call 'em like they see 'em". And I have GREAT respect for that. I also have great love for many of our members here.

The ignore button is a fine feature, its just a shame the people who preach for its use are the same ones who like to scold us like children for speaking out .

You may be socially inept in RL but boy are you ever "ept" online!! ;)

Spot, I should have just let it go last night and not posted. So here's

an "I'm sorry" from ME.

The picture I had of you and your incredibly good deed had gotten a

little dim... so I enhanced it and enlarged it (pretend I know how to

photoshop! :D ) and slapped it right back up there in a place of

prominence, and that's what I'm going to look at, okay?

(And see what I can do about heading off on that there Italy trip...)

And I just realized that I used the word troll six... no make it seven, times. :o

Kinda like what you did at RR?

For the record, I wasn't asking what a troll is, I was simply asking who the trolls are that you are talking about.

Ya know Snooze, Mimi or whatever, get your story straight, and quit with the sympathy crap, your forum mates maybe falling for it, but I can see right through you.

When you first came to RR, I knew NOTHING about this place and you were just a new member and I did like you, still do to a point. But after the El incident on here then you just started being bitchy over there for the most part. Except for El, the rest of us who have become semi regs on here have done NOTHING to this forum, you have made an ass of yourself over there and bringing peoples kids into flaming is complete and utter BS!

Those are my feelings - don't like them, tough sh*t.

And it can also be a nasty place, but we are straight up about it. We don't pretend to all nicey while sitting in threads saying *well screw all these new people we just really want our regs here* behind thier backs -- we say it to thier faces.

I'm perverted enough to find it entertaining. Some of their finest insults are such an accurate portrayal of me that it just cracks me up:D

But that's just me. My mind...FG in general, does not encourage feeding the trolls, so generally- trolls are ignored and move on rather quickly. I've even seen a troll or two reform themselves and decide that they like the folks and atmosphere here.

I only get irritated when trolls go after the gentle members. That's taking too easy of a shot, IMO. They have to know that 99% of the time, that member will not bite back, or if they do, will stop themself. They are too polite. If I notice it, I will try to step in and deflect the troll. If I don't, as happened most recently... if I see it after the damage has been inflicted, I don't have the forgiving nature that the more gentle members have. It is only out of respect for those more gentle members that I don't pursue the troll and leave them in peace...

The one thing I would not do, is pursue them beyond our border. Stirring up their home in retribution is not an option, IMO.

I agree with you completely about not going to someones home to stir up trouble. Point taken.

But what I don't understand is your forums obsession with constantly talking about it. El hasn't done anything in weeks it seems yet you are still going on about it. Get over it, grow up. I'm assuming you are all adults right?

there's a certain recursive quality to this that really grates. others do this too. 'get over it, grow up'. if you're implying that those participating are immature - not adults - then what does that say about you for participating with the completely unhelpful comment "get over it, grow up". it seems it's the perfect dodge - you at once suggest that you're superior to those participating - it takes a more mature person to recognize immaturity - while tossing out a schoolyard taunt i first heard, oh, probably about third grade "grow up". from other third graders, mind you.

it's as unhelpful as calling other people trolls, as spot so wisely pointed out (while in doing so stirring the pot further). it does nothing to calm the waters, it does nothing to bring people together, and it does nothing to engage with others in a mature fashion. what it does, is cause the conversation to fall into recursive calls for everyone to stop obsessing about it - the call being a function of obsession itself.

the next step in the cycle is "if it bothers you, don't post" or "then why are you reading the thread".

it's a lot more fun to just derail it.

here's me in 1973:

compare, contrast. essay, 10% of grade. accurate summary, 10% of grade. utterly irrelevant commentary and digression, 80% of grade.
