I saw what their cards said! These people BELIEVE that! And we let them live amongst us! By governments burying their heads in the sand, more innocent people will get blown up! They are fighting a WAR! What do they think Jihad means anyway? And they have declared Jihad against the west!

Jihad means struggle....the struggle can be internal or external. The word has been interpreted as Holy War by extremists but apparently that isn't it's true meaning. Once again it's all in the interpretation....and that's what causes the problem , not just for the West but for moderate Muslims everywhere.

Fletch, you are speaking of languages, origin, and geography. I am speaking to the modern meaning of a word. It doesn't bother me if you get a kick out of reapplying the definition of anti-semitism, more power to you. Apparently, it makes your argument more enjoyable, touche! But for the rest of the world, anti-semitic means exactly what merriam-webster says it means. Take your case to linguists.

Merriam-Webster is the spokesperson for the rest of the world?

Modern meaning?

So, if in 50 years time, the modern meaning passes back to include them all, does that suddenly make it the in thing or does logic not count for anything?

The modern meaning has simply hijacked the original meaning so there is no need for me to reapply it. It's already been done.

The nature of dictionaries, is to include words that are widely used and their current meanings.

Take a look at a dictionary from a hundred years ago to now. You'll find some words have altered meanings.

Best to go back to the origins of a word I think as oppsed to hijacked definitions.

The linguists themselves can do little even if in agreement when a word is taken into the public sector and re-directed.

Peace

Fair enough, Fletch. So the next time someone says you act gay, they really mean you are a happy chap. ;)
