[quote=weeder]Its good that I came in on this at the end. This is the situation... we have to back up way before discussing rehabilitation.
Our society must stop using the label "WIFE" Wife really does not exist(for the most part) anymore, and the label has connotations of subservitude,
Wife husband, husband wife. Love, trust, friendship, the best part of my life
Its all about perspective I guess. My wife is my wife and Im proud to be her husband.

Abuse is abuse however you try to package it up and tie a little ribbon around it .
Exactly, domestic violence makes me feel ill and how can people get away with it??
My friend has 2 children and was put pushed through a paine of glass right in front of the children..blood pumping through a cut artery and almost lost his life because of it..and guess what? Nothing happened to her!!
He was petrified to leave as he just didn't know what she'd do to the children if he left..he thought at least if he stayed he could keep an eye on her and he'd take the brunt of the violence.
he did leave though and thankfully he got awarded custody of the children..

Goes to show DV can happen to men and women . Is'nt it sad how the children are alway's used as pawn's .Whether you know someone or have experianced DV yourself treating it as unimportant or underestimating the devastation it can cause must not be the norm . Giving offender's a warning, blaming the partner, you would'nt think this was 2006 ,only 20 year's ago the police would'nt intervene...now they can... but still there are reason's trivialising the violence inflicted on other's ......violence is violence what ever colour you want to paint it.

I work with a girl whose boyfriend just got out of jail for domestic violence. I've been off the past 3 days, but from what I've been told, he has called the club and threatened to come there, beat up everyone; young or old, male or female. Being mostly WWII vets, they wouldn't have much of a chance. The sad thing is, I doubt that any of the officers have reported him. I went in yesterday, and the girl had the door wide open. You need a keycard to get in and she would have made it simple for him to walk right in. Why should I fear going to work? I really hope he calls and threatens me because I will go straight to the prosecuting attorney and if that does no good, then the news media. They need to take these threats seriously.:-5

In my experience police have been arresting offenders for assaulting a spouse or other member of the immediately family as a matter of course for at least 36 years. And sometimes the courts did the right thing and banged them up for a while.
DI, maybe i should'nt of put a number out there without checking first.....i'm sorry i'm only going by someone i know who was a victim about that time ago....my problem's where 13/14/ year's ago so i know thing's have changed a lot. What is different now is same sex relationships the police are really trying to encourage the gay and lesbian community to report crime which i have to say can only be a good thing after all a crime is a crime .

I believe domestic abuse cases in the past required the victim to press charges, and now, at least in some states here, the cop can arrest a person for suspected abuse. Maybe there has to be a mark or something, but even if the victim's screaming bloody murder and denying anything happened, the abuser is still carted off to jail.
You have it right, Snooze. We no longer need the victim to press charges, (since they most frequently don't anyway) and the cops are the ones who determine whether charges will be pressed. And the person who doled out the bruises? Yep, they are taken to jail. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. The victim no longer has any say in pressing charges.

My X was a master manipulator....I was too scared to press charges, and he was a great actor around the cops. Also....living in redneck country...the good 'ol boys stick together. You know how those women get out of line.....:yh_pig
Exactly the same here, Daisy. When I was going through it, the "master manipulator" would always, ALWAYS be able to talk himself out of getting cuffed & stuffed. Then, of course, it would be even worse for me once the cops were gone, since it was MY fault that the neighbors called the cops because I was screaming in pain. Then you suffer the beating in silence, so the cops DON'T come back! Horrible way to live....
