Adopt a Prairie Dog

Surely someone can take at least one in?Somewhere between 200 and 300 prairie dogs will first be considered for animal recovery programs, and then killed if no new home can be found. As many as 250 more prairie dogs that have made homes out of the Valmont Butte site will be destroyed. “I’m not sure how we’ll end up doing it,” said Bev Johnson, a city planner familiar with the plans. “There’s just not enough available sites to receive prairie dogs.”There are a lot of people in the US who apparently don't give these poor creatures the time of day. The comments under the main story tell a tale of unconcern."I spent $500K for a 1000sf house next to open space and the prairie dogs are ruining my lawn. God is dead".

What BS. Carbon dioxide a humane way to die? Pumping burrows full of toxins a humane way to die? So they can make a stupid park? Colorado is not known for being wise or tolerant. They of the anti-gay crusade mindset. But back to the dogs, this shows the general mindset of America and humanity in general: "They were here first but I'm here now and my house cost $$$ so they have to go!" There is no working with nature. There is only eradicating nature. A pox on Colorado.

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

Like the Chincoteague program with horses, they could probably do a birth control program for less than the $66+ per it will cost them to kill the little guys.

I had a strange dream last night in which Devist8me drove there and collected them all because she had a big garden they could live in. I don't often get dreams like that. Maybe it was a sign. I'll PM her and ask.

humans have always played favorites game with nature. What they view as helpful to them is good and what is viewed as bad can be destroyed or at very least given a great disadvantage in existing. (i.e take away food supply, cage them, etc)

"I do my thing and you do your thing.

I am not in this world to live up to your expectations,

And you are not in this world to live up to mine.

You are you, and I am I, and if by chance we find each other, it's beautiful.

If not, it can't be helped. "

(Fritz Perls, 1969)

It's amazing---------a prairie dog is a rodent, like a rat is a rodent. People seem to get emotionally involved with prairie dogs because they are cute, unlike rats, and yet no one would raise a finger to SAVE THE RATS.

Apart from the fact that they are cheaper to breed and house than dogs or chimpanzees, scientists seek to justify their use by presenting them to the public as mere rodents- life-forms undeserving of any special consideration. In fact, their suffering is regarded as wholly irrelevant.

[...] rats are capable of showing great affection for humans and for one another, and that they form highly functional societies where, for example, the strong will help the weak to obtain food. Ultrasonic recordings of rats at play have revealed the emitting of chirps - inaudible to the human ear - that are considered to be the equivalent of human laughter. Equally illuminating is the discovery that rats mourn.

Despite the fact that rats have four legs and a tail, live for only 2-3 years, have no gall bladder and cannot vomit, researchers still use them to try to solve human health problems.

Not the ones with four legs, no. Neither can dogs.
