Well you know how I am Spot...I don't want to see animals killed for any reason or let me put it differently: I don't want to see them killed for reasons that humans think are justified.

I personally do not care about anyone's religion on this subject.
it's plain and simple: it is called
cruelty to animals, and there is just no way getting around it!

Then why pick out just religion? That was my question because that's what you did, your reply doesn't seem to notice that I asked.
I particularly dislike wasps because they're bad-tempered, they sting me and I dislike being stung to a greater extent than the average person appears to. I get really narked. I mutter under my breath for days afterwards. I talk about it on and off for years. If a wasp enters a room I leave. Wasps and I don't get on at all. Room 101 is undoubtedly equipped with a wasps' nest. Having said all that, the only wasps I would wish dead are any that approach me closer than, say, fifty feet. I'd carry an emitter of WaspiDeath if anyone gets round to inventing one and it causes nearby wasps to fall out of the air before they reach me.

Not too recent except for the fish. I love fish tacos. That one was the hardest to give up but that night at Casa Serrano was the last time I ate fish. I use Morningstar Farms Ground Beef or Chicken substitute or Boca Burger in place of meat for myself. My dad is not vegetarian and I am the one who does all the cooking so most times if I have to cook real meat for dinner I eat the side dishes or I make myself something else.
Yes, that's true I am aware of the egg and milk production. And sadly because we continue to have milk, we have veal which disgusts me. I don't drink milk but I do cook with it. I prefer 8th Generation or Rice Dream if I drink anything "milk like." We both eat eggs and butter though. Although I know about the beak removal in some factory farms.
That makes me wonder Koan, as a makeup artist, did you only use cruelty free cosmetics? I won't buy any other kind myself.

Actually Spot, I didn't really understand what you were asking. i admit I swat flies. This might make me a hypocrite but I can't say i care that much about flies. I don't claim to be a perfect cruelty-free specimen but I do what I can. No leather, no fur, cosmetics and personal things only from people-tested companies. Maybe one day i will omit eggs and butter too.

You do better than I do with flies, for sure. Flies are the only things I can't stand and that's when they light on me. Hate it.Makes me cranky and itchy. But we also have black widows in our laundry room and other spiders which live out their little lives because I won't kill them. Scorpions and snakes have been rescued by me from certain death by others.

It must be so painful for you to have to prepare food that is against your moral stance. I'd never have guessed you weren't actually eating that chicken yourself.
That makes me wonder Koan, as a makeup artist, did you only use cruelty free cosmetics? I won't buy any other kind myself.
No. I did not. I have not made any claims to being against the harming of animals. Not only did I use cosmetics regardless of being cruelty free, I also used lots of chemically laden products directly on human skin... especially in the special effect work. They generally use chemicals until the government finds out what they are using and bans it, then they switch to another chemical that no one dreamed we would use. The only time I got chemical or cruelty free products was when an actor demanded it. The only reason I try to get chemical free products now is because of my own sensitivities... and I haven't concerned myself with how they tested the stuff.
I also eat meat.

Not really. Cooking it is one thing. It's already dead. Ask me to wring the chicken's neck, no way am I doing that. When I started the veggie thing (and I've "fallen off" twice since then) I was in my late 20s and very idealistic, very "into the Cause." Would berate people for eating animals or wearing leather, you know...like a reformed smoker. But then I fell off once and went back to eating meat and realized I was a big hypocrite. That wasn't good. I also realized (in time) that I wasn't going to change people unless they wanted to change. And I wasn't going to do it by being obnoxious either. So I accept that people eat animals. I don't bug them about it and I eat the way I want quietly. Nobody bugs me either. I can't stop everyone. But I can do what I can. Maybe it isn't enough. But it's something.

Oddly enough I always had an idea that you probably did the cruelty-free thing. I don't know why, maybe it was the tofu and what not. I don't care that you eat meat. I'm not going to harangue you about it.

I'm speaking for myself here. I'm not going to get on anyone for eating meat.
I do think eating dogs/cats is awful but I recognize that cows and pigs (etc) are just as sentient and deserve compassion too. What I AM angry about is the inhumane ways animals of all kinds are killed. There is no excuse for that. I'm even wrong for killing flies.
That's probably what the people who eat dog meat would tell you.
Yes I know. But...did they hang that dog from a wire line and blowtorch its fur off while he was still living? Or did they kill the dog kindly and then dress him?

I read through one of the links spot added to the thread and I didn't see any evidence that any of the slaughter methods were cruelty free.
I've never met someone before who was vegetarian for political reasons who would also prepare meat for someone else to eat because "it was already dead". Congratulations. You are a first.

I'll say this,..when venison tastes overwhelmingly gamey usually is the result of the animal either 1) being killed long enough for it to become overwhelmingly stressed from which it releases a chemical that renders the meat very strong 2) the deer is not dressed promptly and efficiently(*Entrails and organs need not be punctured during the cleaning process) 3) the butcher is incrementally incompetent the more gamey the venison meat is in compliance with their responsibility...
One roast or backstrap from a deer prepared properly would make your mouth water and upon eating it consistently I'm willing to bet you'd swear you'd never eat beef again...
Obviously the question arises of whether or not you can bring yourself to a kill a "Big eyed, cute animal" whereas I tend to think of them as dirty animals to whom craps where they walk...

I've had it at some of my friends house and her hubby prepared it perfectly and it was delish and then I had it again at another friends house and it felt like I was eating sand. They only had put it through the grinder twice.

"They only had put it through the grinder twice." :yh_think...
Deer has to be prepared with extreme competence or venison meat will not taste to average liking...

My one friends husband is a culinary genious when it comes to venison and puts it through the grinder more than twice to get the bits/junk out. He also prepares the steaks to a perfection. It is great when he does a cook out as everyone raves about his steaks (and I'm sure some don't even know they just ate Bambi):wah:

Why don't you actually read what people have written? I will be off the p.c for a while Spot, i have a sacrificial goat to slaughter in my back garden.
Might I remind you that when I posted a link to the specific exemption used you did not even bother to open it and I had to then tell you the contents - why don't you read what people have written?

Only if its served with Tabasco and a side of broccoli. You have plenty of broccoli, but do you have hot sauce over there?
And dont soak it in that brown $hit you call sauce either...

I'd be interested to see a reference or two to wasps acting as pollinators. Individuals might have that effect accidentally on occasion but the words minor or negligible spring to mind, not vital. It's possible that wasps in some areas keep down the numbers of some other animal I'd particularly not like to have around but again nothing springs to mind. I've been stung by too many wasps over too many years to use the word harmless about them - so some merely mimic the ability to sting, bully for them, I still get stings from the ones which aren't kidding.

Your definately a man then Spot. Us ladies do not get freaked out by such cute little chaps. The only time they frightened me was the £400 bill to have a very large nest removed from the loft as they were frightening the kids. Now if you were talking stag beetles, i'd agree-- nasty things they are. Thank god now on the endangered species The thing that bites me are horse flies, very unpleasent. I watched a nature prog that showed how wasps pollinate the garden along with moths. The art is to ignore wasps. It's all the flapping around that attracts them more. If i remember correctly, the female sting is used to kill the male after mating, something the human female could adapt maybe??
o I'll share this one for the ladies---my nephew is licensed for exotic reptiles etc. When airports sieze such being illegally brought into the country, he is one of the registered homes they are taken to. He has a problem in losing the odd one though. He lives at no. 6 & recently a large black widow spider went missing. Getting home from work one evening, his dad told him he was in big big trouble now. No. 4 Had the offending black widow sitting on her front door threatening to call the poice. We all thought it was hilarious. Especially when he joked with the hyserical woman that it was pregnant. p.s. Anyone seen a poisonous corn snake & an african tree frog, gone for some time now??
