Words...and more words

Post by koan »

I recently got a good chuckle looking through my home library.

I have a book called "The Path of Silence"...it is a rather large book for its topic. :wah:

I now think of (my favourite author) Hermann Hesse and his "Magister Ludi". At the beginning of this book he describes the decadence of Society prior to the timing of his story and how they had fallen prey to a bandering of words and intellectualism.

Do you value words? When I introduced myself and expressed some nervousness at the beginning of this venture I was told "They are only words". My nervousness was born of my respect for words and, although I often err, I try to choose my words very carefully. How do you feel about the use of common speech in our Societies?

Yes, I value words. In fact words are very powerful. People use them in a particular manner and the result is a prayer to God. Some other people will use them in another manner and it will result in war.

But words are not powerful on their own. They derive power from letters. The letters are the basic unit of power. Enslish language has 26 letters and entire English writing is made of words derived fron these 26 letters.

In Hinduism, these letters are called Akshara. One name of God is Akshara Brahma, means Akshar is God. So powerful it is that by pronouncing Akshara in a particular manner one can create a desired effect, heat, cold, rain, hate, love....... By chanting one word "Ram" people have reached the God. Have you read the story of Valmiki, who was a dacoit but turned saint by chanting Ram and wrote Ramayana?

I am very interested in hearing these stories.

The idea of words of power is an old one. I have had some interesting experiences in resonating sound. You can feel the vibration throughout your body, especially in the lower ranges of the voice. It is said by some that each person resonates to a complex note. If this musical note is sounded it could disrupt the person's physical structure. Sound is also used as an alternative healing therapy. I wonder how much effect the spoken word may affect our health. The choices of words certainly seem to reflect our mental health. ;)

First let me tell you that I agree with your views expressed in second para of your message.

Now the story of Valmiki. He was a dacoit. He will kill perple passing through the forest, loot their money and other belongings and with the loot look after his family. One day some saints came to the forest. He asked them to surrender all their wealth. Saints asked him why was he killing people and earning displeasure of God. He replied that he has a family to lookafter. Saints asked him to go and ask his family members whether they will share the displeasure of God which he is earning to look after them. He went and asked his family members. They replied that they were not willing to share it. Their reply converted him. He came back and requested the saints to guide him. Saints told him to chant the name of Rama. He did that with all honesty and devotion, and received God's grace. With God's grace all knowledge came to him. He wrote Ramayana, the story of Rama. Ramayana is inspiring crores of Hindus all over the world for ages.

Alternative to what? AFAIK sound is pretty mainstream (as ultrasound). Its' use is being developed all the time. See: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jh ... canc06.xml

Ultrasound is merely a way to see inside the body to find an illness, it does not heal the illness, correct?

"Alternative" in this case refers to being outside of the medical field as recognised by the government in their health plan coverage. The sound therapy I refer to is where a person is left in a room with sounds resonating that are targeted at healing a specific part of their body. Also combined with colour therapy under the belief, usually chakra related, that exposure to that colour will bring the body back into harmony.
