I've watched several programs on this topic lately that featured men and women who felt they were getting out of a CULT. What do you all think? Personally I could never share my husband with anyone.

I've seen a pretty thorough show on it... and it was an eye-opener for

me. I mean, I knew of it but not how widespread it is, and how governments

won't do anything about it because of the religious aspect. State of Utah

to name just one.

I think it's a bad deal for women and children. Apparently, there is an

awful lot of poverty involved around it, and questions about taxpayers

footing the bill for a man's many wives/kids.

I learned how to share in kindergarten, but I draw the line at sharing

my husband!!

I knew a mormom bishop (yes they are very active here but no polygamy) who was eventually kicked out for shackng up with a woman 20 yrs younger than him, they did later marry, sort of presbytarian mormons I think. He used to always say he was glad the polygamy aspect wasn't allowed as the one he had tired him out.

Neither can I!!!

I don't know if there are any cults that allow that, probably not.

Maybe we need to start one ourselves I'd guess we'd best go to China then, there's not that many single guys on this forum!

Actually, are there any???

I don't understand why people get upset about it. The anti-gay-marriage crowd say that if we allow gay marriage, polygamy is the next step. that's saying that it is even worse than gay marriage - yet it is allowed in the Bible.

I don't give two shakes what consenting adults do. Government should leave it to the churches.

Heck, couples make a mockery of it anyway.

I met a 'Utah Mormon' as he called himself, he told me that the Utah Mormons frown on military service and he was 'put out of the temple' for joining, by that I assumed he meant he was excumunicated. He told me an interesting thing about poygamy that was practiced by some in his family, he said that they belived that when a mormon woman dies, she can only be called out of the grave by her husband, and the wives are told that if they are good wives they will be called out, but that only one wife per husband can be called.

That to me is very controlling, might keep a weak minded, brainwashed woman on a tight leash.

Disclaimer: I realize that this may not be the mainline teaching of the mormon church and am fully prepared and expect to be corrected if this is not an accurate statement.

Far.

Not sure what cult your friend was a member of but the LDS church does not frown nor send out to pature any male or female if they join the armed services. Just wanted to clear that one up before it became gospel.

Their stance is this:

Although the Church is opposed to war and recognizes that going to war is a very poor alternative in resolving conflicts, tens of thousands of Latter-day Saints have served their countries' armed forces, sometimes even fighting in opposing forces, especially in World War II. The Church considers being loyal citizens to be a duty of its members, irrespective of nationality. Responding to a call for military service is one appropriate manner of fulfilling this duty of citizenship. Latter-day Saints who choose military careers have no restrictions on either their fellowship or their callings in the Church. While any member is free to object to military service because of conscience, Church membership in and of itself is not a justification, and Church leaders have discouraged conscientious objection in every conflict of the twentieth century
