Would they remember in their dreams?

My husband talks normal in his sleep, it is like he is no longer brain injured. He gives order at work, and talks away unfettered by reality. I sit up and listen to him, it is like he once was. I want to ask him things when he is asleep, to hear his response-but never would wake him. It is very surreal, a mystery of the mind.
