Hi....when I posted the other day about getting to know other FG members, I was happily surprised by the response I got====> http://www.forumgarden.com/forums/showt ... hp?t=37914

It did occur to me though that there may be some members who aren't interested or don't want to be "bothered" so with that in mind, I was thinking it might be good to have a list of sorts of the members who are interested. So....if you are interested, would you mind saying so in this thread so that we know who wants to hear from us? Thank you! :-6

I don't spend that much time in here, but I'm in. However, I don't really expect too much activity, as I'm the official FG "Thread killer"!

As it seems most every time I enter a thread, it gets killed! :wah:

Very lovely thread Red...one of your best. Thank you:-6 As always you have the best threads:-6It's funny... A few months ago I posted to someone here that I'm sure that he thought that we'd never had anything in common with each other. I wasn't sure that he'd even reply to my pm. I just thought that he was a quiet and lovely person. AND, so he is, and we're having lovely conversations....slowly but surely, step-by-step we're going.....:wah:

So, I'm in and would love to meet more friends for good conversation:p

Hi Red,

warning: could be thread killer reply here :o

I'm not sure what the penpal communication means? Will I send and receive secret emails from a perfect stranger or something? Will I have to ask and answer twenty questions? It's all so mysterious!

Why not get to know everyone on the forumgarden instead, just the way it is? Please help me understand how going email or pm contributes to more authentic relationship building in this context. It's all virtual communication anyway.

Am I sounding negative right now? Please comment; I welcome the input. Just not sure how this penpal thing works? Personally at this time I don't feel too close to anyone because I haven't made the effort to be sincere, be consistent in my interactions or involved in the stuff that makes closeness possible-like small talk. Does email do that? Make one real on the internet?

I believe most people, when they spend enough time with each other, will sort out who they have stuff in common with and develop deeper friendships as a result. I'm not sure it's necessary to assign penpals to people and go underground. I infer people already communicate with others they have developed friendships with, offline or through other channels, on their own.

Not sure I should click the submit button, but here goes...

Actually Erin, I have pm'd several people and have gotten to know them a little deeper, what their thoughts are on subjects, etc. Very interesting when you really pm others and get their thoughts on the table. Things that you would otherwise not know about them.

Well I think its a good idea. I have sent two pm messages to people I dont know much but have seen on this forum and it has been successful. I just talked about basic things and learnt a lot more about my pen pal. I am fairly private so I dont want to blab about everything on a thread for everyone to see. I really cant see anything wrong with it:thinking:

Yes, Kay, I think we nailed that question from Erin. It's just more interesting to see what people really think and to get an answer on basic stuff that normally doesn't get posted on the threads.
