Looking for some info on wireless mouse please

My current PC mouse has a cable connected to the HD. It doesn't seem to be all that ergonomically user friendly. Today I was at a store that had a "wireless" mouse.

Before buying it, I wondered, does anyone out there use a wireless mouse, & if so do you like it, would you recommend it, and are there any drawbacks?

I have two wireless mice. The standard one I find does not move my cursor smoothly on the screen but rather in a jerky, annoying fashion. The other is a small mouse made for laptops and works much better except it sucks up batteries too fast. That's my only gripe about it. If you don't mind having frequent battery changes, then you might enjoy the wireless mouse. I think they're kind of fun.

Thanks Red for you input. That's a shame about the jerky thing. I don't think I would like the jerky movements, as that would not seem to work well on some of the "timed" words games, where you have to click on a letter in a puzzle, forming a word as quickly as possible. And then the eating up of batteries thing would be a bummer as well. So far, looks like I may be better off with the cable mouse. :wah:

As long as you have USB slots on your machine wireless mouse and keyboard is the only way to go. You have a receiver you put batteries in the mouse and install the software if necessary most are plug and play depending the version of Windows your running. You won't be sorry if you get one they are easy to install and use.

I've gone wireless. If your worried about batteries get re-chargable ones and keep two on charge. I got the basic Microsoft mouse and keyboard, both fine for the net and not jerky in use. A lot better without the wires getting tangled on the desktop.

I love it because you don't have to worry about the wire getting caught up all the time.

What is good brand for a Dell computer? Or can you use any of them.

GSDUCK any brand will work on any PC. they also work on Laptops if you can't stand the small keyboard your Laptop has. Myself I prefer MICROSOFT keyboards and mices they just are tougher and last a very, very long time, and they look and feel great.

I LOVE my wireless mouse. It came with a dock that recharges the batteries for me. It is a Logitech MX 900. Very nice and highly recommended!

Ok, thanks all for your replies, looks like I will give it a try! But like CARLA said, I need a USB port available. Right now I think there are 2 USB ports, & one is used by the printer, & the other is used for my camera cable. I think I remember somewhere seeing a USB splitter, I'll have to try to get one when getting the Wireless mouse. Again thanks all for your inputs!

Carla's words on brand are relevant too, not so much for jerkiness - I'm sure that proper configuration would deal with that on all but the most fly-boy backstreet recent start-up company's incompetent attempt at a driver - but for the mere feel of the thing. It has to be optical, it has to fit your hand and it has to have as many ways of clicking as you find useful. I have a clickable centre wheel for example and I'd be annoyed without that in certain programs.

On the other hand, the mouse and the computer always need to be close enough to each other for the user to read the itty pixelly bits and a wire does tend to tether the little bastard. I've known households where wireless mice absconded frequently. If you occasionally search for your TV controller then a wireless mouse is potentially a source of grief.

I've never used bluetooth wireless for any peripheral, I quite simply don't want the added uncertainty of battery power. I don't see the point of doing it. I see no benefit. Nothing's lighter, nothing's more functional, every time there's a glitch I'd wonder whether my rechargeables had finally given up recharging. But that's just me being Grinch-like.

None of my Operating Systems or programs come out of Redmond but my mouse does. Buy Microsoft.

On USB cables, mice come with a USB/PS2 adapter so you can use your existing mouse PS2 port. I've never seen any difference in response between that and using USB. If you get a USB splitter then it'll run at the speed of your existing port you plug it into which is fine for a slow thing like a mouse. If you ever want to plug a fast thing like a scanner in you might check you've actually got USB2 in your computer. If you haven't then a 3-way USB PCI card costs $10 and it would speed up your camera as well. If you already have USB2 then ignore this paragraph.

Spot is correct on this point many time the actual cable is split with USB and PS2 both makes it easy if your out of USB slots. Also check the front of your machine they often have 2 USB slot in the front on most DELL Desktops. You may have to actually get down on your knees to see them, and some are behind a flip up door if you will. :wah:
