Oh Oh, your goose seems like it's cooked! :p

Maybe you can tell him that you were just helping santa cause he has so many boys & girls to bring presents to that Santa couldn't wrap all the presents himself! ;) :wah:

I've found acknowledging the truth is always the best. Children are amazing when their thoughtful considerations are confirmed by those they try to show how smart they are to, it helps them mature.

Yeah, but this revelation came out of now where today. I told him that everyone in the house "believes" in the Christmas spirit. No luck with a 6 yr old. Just don't want to bum him out in ...... yeah, it's June right?

I think you have to come clean. Most of my kids in my classes tell me that they suspected santa wasn't real...confronted their parents...and got the confirmation they were looking for. I promptly give them the "shush" look so the santa isn't real rumor doesn't catch on like a wild fire.

Ducks its a hard one and I feel its an individual way we all approach it, I denied at first and said I still believed but once I realised I wasnt cutting it, I let go lol....

To me believing in Santa is a necessity for the magic of Christmas as a child. As to when children should be told, well children all mature at different rates, I'd say before the age of 11 to 13 depending on the child, but if they find out earlier or make assumptions it doesnt really matter.

My eldest daughter was 5 or 6yrs when she decided she didnt believe, I was upset, not because she didnt believe but because I felt it took the magic out of the whole event. My youngest still believes even though big sis ha tried to sway her otherwise, last year we just asked her not to spoil it for her sister and she hasnt and infact got more into the spirit of it. Its funny but my eldest still believes in the tooth fairy lol..

I know their are people who say its lying to your kids but I think these type are allowed . Let kids enjoy the magic, they'll have plenty enough time to realize there are very few things to get excited about in life. When their old enough to understand they will see it was said for their enjoyment and not out of malice.

Keep them as "kids" as long as you can, they grow up so fast and are burdened with lifes realities soon enough!!! :wah:

My 5 range in age from 19 to 28, and they and I have never lost a beat as they've grown. We have pictures all over the house of them as children, so that feeling never leaves regardless, but I think that a child should have the freedom to grow as life unfolds before them and they approach issues individually. I've always enjoyed walking with them as that has occurred. The journey is grand when parents have the privilege to join their children in it.

Thats the same as any good parent. Just cos most choose to add a little magic in their lives doesnt make us any lesser a parent.

None of his friends have curfews as early as his. Note: Most of his friends are from broken families and use the two family mumble jumble to get around any curfew. I will also say that this is the first summer with a problem with him. He suddenly thinks he is a grown up.

Hey Ducky:-6

As Chezzie says and I agree... "Keep the magic going as long as you can."

I would tell your son that Santa is very busy and needs the parents to help him deliver the pressies. He hides the presents in certain stores ,and the parents can pick them up at the store and wrap them with their child's favorite wrapping paper.

Why tell the children that there is no Santa when they still believe:thinking:Quite a few of my 3rd graders (8 to 9 year olds) still believe in Santa and don't care that others do not believe.

I love Santa and still believe in the magic:-4

When by daughter told me that she did not believe anymore and that she ‘knew’ that there was no Santa, I informed her that she was mistaken, and there is a Santa.

I told her that there is a Santa Clause; he is just not what you think.

I told her that I am Santa, and before me, my father was, and his father before him. And that she was aware, she now had the pleasure of taking a part in the tradition, and keeping the magic alive for the younger kids. We let her sign the gifts from ‘Santa’ for you younger sisters.

She was thrilled, and now still believes in Santa, although not the way small kids do.

Santa as a magical person is fake (I prefer the word 'imaginary'), but the whole point of Christmas is the IDEA of it. The idea of someone like Santa can be kept alive a few years longer for your 6 year old, it's just part of the rituals & stories at Christmas time. Children love stories & make believe. So do adults, it's a bit of harmless escapism, & none the worse for being just that.
