RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Amazon Indians from one of the world's last uncontacted tribes have been photographed from the air, with striking images released on Thursday showing them painted bright red and brandishing bows and arrows.
The photographs of the tribe near the border between Brazil and Peru are rare evidence that such groups exist. A Brazilian official involved in the expedition said many of them are in increasing danger from illegal logging.
"What is happening in this region is a monumental crime against the natural world, the tribes, the fauna and is further testimony to the complete irrationality with which we, the 'civilized' ones, treat the world," Jose Carlos Meirelles was quoted as saying in a statement by the Survival International group.
Should they be contacted or is it possible to leave them in peace?

I agree....we should do them a favor and leave them in peace.

If we don't leave them alone they'll die of diseases, they'll suffer culture shock, they'll turn to alcoholism and dependency and worst of all they'll meet those bloody Baptists who want to tell them about Jesus.

Oh please I hope they leave them alone, and anyway, if you didn't know about the rest of the world, as it is now, would you really want to know how screwed up it is? Methinks those people are the sane ones. We have nothing to show them, nothing of use anyway.

Perhaps you could indicate your reason for believing they're inaccurate?

So you are suggesting that we make indigenous tribes such as them, wards of the government? It hasn't worked before, why would you think it would this time?
Your definition of what is "human rights" may not be the same as they define it. To force another system on them is a denial of their rights.

something not right bout those latised photos on tv... wundderin if it's faked
Unknown tribes
They've been enhanced certainly but no, they're not faked.
I can't believe there are still people, after all these centuries of seeing the inevitable effects of culture shock on indigenous peoples, who want to turn these unique societies into the wrecked detritus that results from contact for the few who survive the unavoidable disease stage.

Gotta agree with spot and others on this. During my school days I was angered to learn of how monks followed early explorers into wilderness areas to convert and exploit the natives. As a child, all that only taught me to distrust religion, or at least, the administers of religion.

Human rights? education? health?
They will educate themselves in a traditional form. Teaching the traditions and the skills they need , to be able to live right there in their home.
As for health I don't think we have much to offer them considering the state of health and health care in a lot of western countries.
As for human rights, isn't it their right to be left alone to live in peace and in the way that they choose.?
We in the west really have nothing of value to offer these people and our meddling would almost certainly lead to the destruction of their way of life.
Have a little respect Leave them be.

Humm !! what difference does it make if the have had contact with Prospectors, Loggers or whom ever. If the purpose was to show they exist to the rest of the world we now know. Hopefully their forest and homeland will be left alone and they can live in peace. As I said before they can learn nothing from us, they have probably been around much longer then our society.
Staged or otherwise they are real and deserve to be left alone. I kind of envy them their simplicity.

Yes, the anthropologist thinks they have had previous contact, and acquired trade items. But they choose to remain within their own world, it is their right.
Ali, why would you think your cultural perspective of "education/awareness" is more important then their own? That is condenscending to them, since we do not know them or their culture. Your comment,"objective of the creation," would be what?

Thank you for your definition, Ali. You are refering to our lives, and yes, that is the dichotomy of this subject.
A part of us would want to share our own religious/belief system with them, but we do not know what their own spiritual belief system is.
And thier lifestyle indicates the lack of such perspectives.
I do not think that is true, what is seen in the photo does not show a lack or a presence of a belief system. That is conjecture on our part, we view the photo from our own cultural background.
The historical precedents set, when another group "assumes" they know what would be best for them, has proven to be detrimental. Most would die from disease, a culture/lifestyle destroyed, and another group of people would be changed forever.
I guess I hold a little of the Quaker belief system within me, that they must know of the Creator-in whatever manifestation they perceive Him.

These people deserve to be left alone. We've know about their existence for years, and they know and have seen us.
