I'm so upset. I was going to borrow for the house against my retirement. So, I called the retirement company & told them what I was planning on doing & asked for my balance for the mortgage company. The woman said she'll type up a letter & email it to me for that purpose. The letter states that the account can't be used as collateral for a loan & can only be withdrawn upon retirement! Why didn't that BIMBO tell me that when I spoke to her on the freakin' phone??? :-5:-5:-5

She was probably following policy Observer. Sorry to hear your news.

The only person that can withdraw from a retirement account is the account holder which is you. That's why they can't use it as a collateral because the person holding the morgage over your head couldn't access it. Yeah, I know, that sucks.

The only alternative is to see if you can make a withdrawal from it and use that money now, but I'm sure the penalties of doing that would be costly.

Not sure. I have another retirement account, but not much at all in that one, because it's set up with stocks. My mortgage payments would be a LOT more. Why couldn't she tell me this over the phone???

Like I said, she was following her company's policy, that it had to be in writing?
