Hurricane Dennis
DENNIS MAY WELL BE A CATEGORY 4 by the time it makes US landfall, according to the hurricane center in miami. it's going to be a very dangerous storm if that is the case. it's very early for a cat4 and this does not bode well for the season. the projected path can wobble and change of course. but after it goes across cuba it will gain huge strength over warm waters.....................
Hurricane Dennis on path to U.S. Gulf Coast
Tropical Storm Dennis became the first Atlantic hurricane of the 2005 season Wednesday evening after an Air Force reconnaissance plane clocked sustained winds of nearly 80 mph, the National Hurricane Center said. Hurricane warnings were posted for Jamaica and the southwestern peninsula of Haiti, where more than 3,000 people died in flooding and landslides after Tropical Storm Jeanne hit the impoverished country in 2004.

If you're not leaving for a couple of weeks, you should be out of danger of the actual storm, unless another comes up. But if it hits near where you're going, you'll see the carnage and damage.

My sis is in Destin right now on vacation. They got some weather from TS Cindy, but it's beautiful there today she told me this am on the phone.

bloody hell........
Developments across Florida late Thursday related to Hurricane Dennis, the first hurricane of the Atlantic season:
Dennis grew rapidly into a strong Category 4 storm, with winds of 135 mph by 11 p.m. EDT.
Gov. Jeb Bush issued a state of emergency.
A hurricane warning was issued for the lower Florida Keys through Key West and the Dry Tortugas. Tropical storm warnings were up for the remainder of the Florida Keys, and tropical storm watches were in effect for parts of South Florida and the southwestern corner of the state.
All residents of the lower Keys, from the Seven Mile Bridge south, were ordered to evacuate, and officials warned that the evacuation order could be extended for the entire Keys if forecast tracks continued shifting Dennis' projected path eastward.
All mobile-home residents of the Keys were ordered to evacuate, as were all visitors and non-residents. Vacationers planning trips to the Keys were urged to postpone.
Fishermen's Hospital in Marathon and Lower Keys Medical Center are scheduled to close Friday, as are all Monroe County offices and schools. The Agency for Health Care Administration said Medicaid participants in Monroe County could have prescriptions refilled early to avoid problems caused by any storm aftermath.
All five commercial airlines serving Key West International Airport were reporting that most flights were sold out, although some were considering adding more flights for Friday morning. Many rental car companies throughout the Keys had extremely limited availability.
Greyhound added buses to help get people out of the lower Keys. Greyhound's Key West terminal would be open until at least midnight Thursday, and two northbound buses were set to depart at 6 a.m. Friday. "We'll adjust our operations based on whatever

we are activated at some point, have to get our loved ones out because we are not allowed to go home throughout the duration. we go door to door in mandatory evacuation areas and get the personal info of people who refuse to leave so we can ID their bodies later. ( i like to make my point by giving them a do-it-yourself toe tag.) when it hits our cruisers take cover and we answer NO 911 calls. if we can "sleep" we "sleep" in the jail. which is not possible with all the noise. the inmates are locked down the entire time.

LC go safely in all this and you sure now have your heart stretched in many directions.

After lashing the Caribbean with powerful winds and causing as many as 20 deaths, Hurricane Dennis began to regain strength today as it churned its way into the Gulf of Mexico. The storm faded as it crossed Cuba overnight, but is picking up steam in the warm, open water of the Gulf on its path toward the United States.

Hurricane Dennis advances on Gulf Coast
CTV.ca News Staff
Evacuation orders have been issued to more than a million people from the Florida Panhandle to Louisiana as Hurricane Dennis, which has already claimed at least 32 lives in Haiti and Cuba, edges toward the U.S. coast.
"This is a very dangerous storm and we hope that you will evacuate," Gov. Jeb Bush said to residents in the Panhandle.
Hurricane Dennis lashed the Florida Keys Saturday, headed toward areas still being rebuilt from last year's storms. It was expected to hit U.S. landfall Sunday or Monday.
Governors across the region declared states of emergency, as weather forecasters struggled to pinpoint the final destination of the hurricane.
Most of Key West was without power Saturday morning as the hurricane passed west of the island, lashing the coast with rain and wind.
"We're holding up," Key West Mayor Jimmy Weekley told The Associated Press. "The biggest damage right now of course is the power being off."
Dennis is following in the path of last year's Ivan, which came ashore at the Florida-Alabama line, causing 29 deaths and $4 billion US damage in the Panhandle alone.
The eye of the hurricane hit Cuba Friday afternoon, and President Castro said on state television that 10 had died on the southeastern coast, calling the storm "diabolical."
The U.S. military detention camp Guantanamo Bay, situated on the eastern end of Cuba, did not suffer any casualties, although the hurricane swept a guard tower into the sea.
On Thursday, the storm pounded Haiti with sustained winds of up to 215 km/hr, killing at least 10 people.
Dennis follows Tropical Storm Cindy, which reached Louisiana on Tuesday, hindering oil production and refining.
Twenty-three petroleum production platforms and six drilling rigs were evacuated, interrupting more than three per cent of the region's normal production.
By Wednesday, the storm was wreaking havoc in Louisiana and Mississippi, flooding streets and destroying power lines.
Dennis is the strongest Atlantic hurricane to form this early in the season since records began in 1851, the National Hurricane Center said. The season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.
Last year, three destructive hurricanes -- Frances, Ivan and Jeanne -- tore through the Caribbean, killing hundreds of people, and causing billions of dollars in damage.
Hardest hit was Haiti, which is vulnerable to flash floods and mudslides. Last year, about 60,000 people died in floods in May and September.

Thankyou my good friends! Gabs, i saw your thread and wrote to you. i am fine, this thing is going to make landfall today and i fear much damage. i hope no human casualties. 1.4 million people have evacuated from gulf coast, and those who haven't have about two more hours to get out. i would strongly advise they do. i am having some heavy weather, and if i "disappear" it's because of lost power. thanks for caring everyone! ......................'Very, very dangerous' Dennis closing in
Hurricane Dennis is moving toward the U.S. Gulf Coast and the center of the Category 4 storm is expected to hit along the Alabama-Florida coast this afternoon or evening. "This is a very, very dangerous hurricane," said Max Mayfield, director of the Miami-based National Hurricane Center. "No matter where this hurricane makes landfall, it's going to have a big, big impact over a very large area."
