NY says no to electrocution
I think this is incredible that finally somebody had the fortitude to put a stop to this barbarity. If they can do that for fur animals, then maybe they can work toward abolishing the gas chamber for shelter cats and dogs!! All it takes is a step in the right direction- that of sense and sensibility and things will move right along.

In better days, I bought a house in a quiet neighborhood. It didn't take long to notice a lack of song birds and rabbits, coupled with an abundance of stray cats roaming all about. at first I shot a few with my air rifle. It was a bit noisy and the cats, thrashing about in their death throes, attracted the attention of my too near neighbors.
I befriended a fellow down the street who was fed up with being overrun with cats, since he was trying to attract song birds to his feeders. His yard was much larger than mine, and more isolated. So, we pooled our money, bought a live trap and caught our first cat the very next day. We took the trap, kitty and all, to the animal shelter in our town. They said they would take the cat, for so much cash. Not acceptable, we agreed.
So, cat and trap went back to his place. A hose from his power mower's exhaust to the cage, an old blanket over the cage and a few minutes. No more kitty. We rid the neighborhood of over 80 cats that summer. And, song birds are back.

You know Hopppy, I have noticed in each animal thread I've read or posted, you've felt a need to tell us how you "got rid of" some animal. First it was your blowguns, then your kid shooting javalina at a waterhole (which had no context in the subject by the way) and now it's how you tortured 80 cats one fine summer.
I for one am getting tired of reading your comments. I find them to be cruel, ignorant as all billy hell, and outright stupid. Not to mention unnecessary. You were too damn cheap to pay the shelter to give the cat a (possibly) better death so you murdered it in a very cruel fashion yourself and you say this why...? To impress us? Because you think we'd want to read it? What is your game, Hoppy? Sure you can say pretty much anything you want in anybody's thread, but so can I. I find your remarks about the torture and cruelty you have inflicted on animals to be incredibly offensive.

And I'm damn tired of the animal hugger crowd trying to dictate everyone,s behavior. Why should I, or anyone, give a rat's behind about the spotted cockroach or whatever you animal types are beating the drum about? In some countries they eat dogs and cats. Help world hunger by sending our strays there.
I bet many of your kind are liberals. Why don't you people get real jobs, work hard and be happy, like us conservatives?

REDGLITTER- Obviously, we both are from different backgrounds. My background is rural, my family were and are hunters. You see animals as pets and love objects, I see them as food or trouble. We may never agree but can we agree to disagree?
I'll try to leave out any gory details when I make a point.

I've often said to my family, that if I were to take my own life due to fatal incurable sickness, it would be as hoppy did to these cats. In fact I should just call hoppy as I'm sure he would be happy to accommodate me.
My argument with hoppy is that there have also been cannibalistic tribes, but does that mean its okay to kill humans for food as well?
I was saving this for a thread on overcrowded cemeteries but, hell why not send 'em our dead? Kinda like the movie "Soylent green". Lol.

Yeah, uh-huh... "thrashing about in their death throes" is sure leaving
the gory parts out. Why you would be so boastful about such
a thing is beyond me, you have to know how it sounds, and it seems
you're just itchin' for a dust-up.
Of course he has the right to say what he wants, RJ, but the response
he calls forth on himself, and we have the right to that, too.
I was raised rural, too, and my family were/are hunters. I've had
more "trouble" with the neighborhood cats than most and I would
NEVER think to do anything inhumane to them. The humans who
own them are the ones to blame. Not the cats.
I find it very hard to believe that you would have to pay a fee to
take the cats to a shelter. Even if so, a lot of shelters have night
drops where if you're the kind who would do it, you can just leave
animals.

Like maybe read the post times before you run your mouth.
I find it naive to believe owners of troublesome pets are going to admit to owning them and allowing them to free range anywhere anytime.
My town has an animal cop that won't, or isn't allowed, to do squat. Our "shelter" won't accept critters without some form of pay or compensation.

Please don't be nasty. I'm not "running my mouth" any more than
anyone else on this site.
Nowhere did I say that owners are going to admit to anything. I'm
not naive as you say. Far from it.
So, what is the fee? Five bucks? Fifty? How many cats are left now
that you've dispatched the 80?
Maybe there is a rescue group somewhere that would trap and remove
them for you. Maybe there is an animal lover out there who would
pay the shelter fee.

RJ- I will also exercise my right to tell Hoppy when he offends me. Which seems to be often of late. I have that right.
Also, if you were to die in the way those cats did, you'd be clawing your way out as the fumes burned your throat, esophagus and lungs. What Hoppy and company did to those cats was cruel, ignorant, inhumane and unjustifiable. Not to mention they were someone else's cats.
Hoppy- I will not assuage you, no. I find your attitude toward all animals to be repellent. Your rurality is an excuse at best as I have been rural for 33 years and I know that decent folk don't commit such heinous crimes. Last i checked, animal cruelty was a crime. So don't be giving me this bit about how I am a bleeding heart who loves animals and you're a codger who sees them as food and trouble. That's your own problem and one you might ought to address promptly. At the very least, you could stop bragging about all the ways you have killed animals. I don't believe there's anyone here who finds it particularly impressive.

Fine. Then I won't tell you how our local rod& gun club used to deal with stray cats members caught and held in pens until weekends. Or hundreds of barn pigeons.

Did it ever occure to anyone that some of us are offended by all the "animal rights above all else" posts by some of you? I see mangy curs being taken to animal hospitals, given medical care I can't afford for myself, fed better than I often was, then placed in a home with some yuppie family with a big suburban house and a BMW. S**T.
Animals often are showered with more rights as humans lose more of theirs. Wake up. Stop worshipping animals. Stop idolizing them. They are here to use, not worship. What the hell's the matter with you people?

Hoppy YOU wake up! This isn't 1934 on the farm. Step into the modern age where we treat living things with respect and decency. And no, I don't go for that bit about animals are here to use. That's your opinion and certainly not the truth. And as for you not getting as good as animals do, maybe that's because you're capable of protecting your own self whereas they are not. So stop your whining.

I have a chunk of my left calf missing from a bear attack. No, I was not hunting or armed. I went out to the barn to see why the horses were going crazy. Bear was in the barn open area. Our only farm dog, a shorthaired pointer, tore into that bear. He ran the bear off but was clawed pretty bad. We both lived.
No point here. Just a glimpse of my times. Oh yeah, animals ARE to use. I eat meat, use leather items, some animals work for their keep or are not kept, and dad has plowed with horses. Lap dogs, however I wouldn't have allowed on the place.

What about skunks?
I hunt and fish, eat whatever I kill or catch but I don't kick my dogs. Now if a skunk comes my way and wants to ruin my masculine odor then he is in peril for his life..

That is a Christian belief, and one of Americas foundations is "freedom of religion." You have the right to believe as you choose, hoppy, but so does anyone else without being ridiculed for their beliefs.
Sorry, RJ, no where in the bible does it says you can eat cats or dogs. If fact, it says you cannot.
Hoppy, I think you just like to goad Red. Because she cares about animals, you consider that a weakenss and so that's where you jab her. Stop, please.
Animals are her heart and she cares about them. Can't you just accept that and attempt to control your jabbing. You can respond with any story you wish just try to lay off the grisely details.
I think you would stand up and holler louder than her should someone do the same to you and attack you views.
Liberal, democrate, republican or independent; what difference does that make?
