HM Government/Bombings

Post by Bothwell »

OK so this is a really difficult time for all of us not least MR Blair (and I not his biggest fan). I thought he was outstanding yesterday as was Ken Livingstone (Mayor of London) which suprised me. However I was listening to the Home Secretary (Charles Clarke) on BBC radio this am and was stunned with the following exchange.

BBC: Was the terror threat level lowered several days ago

CC : Yes it was, as there was a reduction in communications

BBC : What is the threat level now

CC : I cannot tell you that information

!!!!!!!!!! :-5

Whaaat, so there is a terror threat level but it's a secret, well actually it's not a secret I found out how it works. All members of the government get to know along with certain industry leaders if it affects their business. The logic is that if we the general public know we may panic!!! What a load of crap, I want to know what the level is, what to look out for, what method of transport to use etc etc, I am writing to Mr Blair today regarding this.

We dont panic it's just not in our nature

True Bothwell, you dont. I'm well impressed with 'carry on' strength of the Brits. And it has served you very well.

I think more than a few things will change as a result of this. Not so dramatically as in the states, and alot more behind the scenes, but change nontheless.

At a news conference, the met police have confirmed over fifty dead. And there are more bodies trapped in the russel square bomb site.

I hope Mr. Blair and Mr. Bush have reserved some special targets for such and occasion as this. I expect we will know soon enough.

The co-ordinated terrorist bombs across London yesterday came out of the blue. The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre, which operates from the HQ of MI5, had uncovered no evidence in recent weeks of an al-Qa'ida-style plot to attack London. Someone slipping up somewhere?Better intelligence is best way to prevent attacks.

BOTHWELL,

I agree the public has a right to know the "Terror threat alert levels" period. Give us some credit we understand what the treat level means, and have the common sense to react correctly. :-5 Without this knowledge we have no idea what is going on, or what to expect. Just a shame if you ask me. My heart goes out to all Brits at this awful time, we know what your going through.

On the other hand you could be here and have a daily alert level going across your TV screen on the hour everyday. We are given the alert levels constantly. Sometimes they are more confusing than helpful. None the less awareness is everything in these dangerous and diffucult times.

I dont think we need any government stats to tell us we are under threat, maybe it was just arrogance on the uk's part to think "we're British no one can touch us."

The western world is under threat from Al Quaida, and it has been since Sept 11th, Britain and the rest of Europe just got too bloody complacent!
