My twelve year old is becoming obsessed with time. She watches the clock all day long, thinking about how long she has until the next thing she needs to do or how little time is left when she is enjoying herself.
Time is beastly. It keeps us organised, sequentially, so our mind can grasp events but I also see it as a trap. Beyond co-ordinating when we agree something will happen (start work/school... finish work/school... meet for dinner) I see no particular use for it.
Time
Time
I've been lying in bed for the past hour or so, fruitlessly waiting for sleep to come. Everytime I'd roll over and catch glimpse of the digital, red numbers etched on the glaring face of my alarm clock, anxiety would wash over me, bringing to consciousness the rapidly approaching work day. How fitting it is that I decided to get up, and after a couple of games of Time Life sudoku, stumble upon this thread.
What I have never really understood is why people get depressed about their birthday. It's just a day. They're only a day older than they were the previous day. But because their age has increased by one in number, they are suddenly faced with an unremitting confirmation of their mortality. It's as though we go through life unaware of our own personal internal clock, and birthdays, calendars, and alarm clocks force us to submit to this awareness.
On that note, I am back to bed. I have to be up in... 3 hours and 20 minutes. :-5
But first, I am going to put my alarm clock on the floor.

Time
Well I only get annoyed by the time when I can't get to sleep, and end up staring at the clock watching the minutes tick away. I have even blocked off the time, just to try and give myself some peace, I'm just thankful that this happens very rarely.
