Oh COME ON!

This zero tolerance for drug abuse is getting ridiculous. Magic Markers smell good to an 8 year old! I suppose they won't let him eat paste either.

Family Outraged After Colorado 3rd Grader Suspended for Sniffing Shirt With Marker on It

Friday, April 04, 2008

The family of a Colorado third grader is furious after he was suspended for sniffing his shirt. School administrators accused 8-year-old Eathen Harris of trying to get high by huffing a stripe of magic marker on his shirt, MyFOXColorado reported.

Harris’ teacher reported him for misbehaving and Harris Park Principal Christopher Benisch handed him a three day suspension.

James Harris, Eathen’s father, insists the punishment is too extreme.

“ automatically assumed that he was huffing a

marker, James Harris told MyFOXColorado. “He is in third grade, he's 8-years-old. And I think that's a ridiculous assumption.

When James Harris went to the school to argue his son did not know any better, the suspension was reduced from three days to one. He still does not think the school has done enough.

Principal Benisch stands by his decision, telling MyFOXColorado he believes the markers pose a serious safety issue if misused.

He says Eathen Harris’ punishment stems from repeatedly sniffing the marker on his shirt, even after being told to stop.

"We really want to send a clear message to that student and the other students that we're responsible for that, Benisch told MyFOXColorado. “This is a real true danger.

Do you not know how much damage a 3rd grader can do with a lunch box :D

Seriously this is ridiculous .... ...... unless of course the 3rd grader was manufacturing her own roll your own markers.

That is silly-oh my gosh, we always used to smell papers fresh from the mimeograph! That is not a suspencionable offense, only if he was writing on the walls or something on purpose, and I doubt that for an 8 year old. At that age, a more proper consequence would be to clean the walls!

I dont' get it, lots of children use smell to explore the world and this young child is in the right age group to be smelling everything he comes across. A child sees a stain of something unfamiliar they will smell it.

The teachers at my sons school would be making a joke of it :wah: The poor little thing is being crucified y the age of ten, oh yeah that's the way to begin life in society!!!NOT

He was told to stop. The fact that he refused to obey a simple command should be punished I believe.

Freedom? Liberals are the reason high schools are turning out kids who are borderline morons, often. Way too often.

Yes freedom! Ever consider what it is you beat your drum about? I doubt it because you conservatives are more interested in being right than free.

Being free means the right to own and carry firearms without tons of paper involved. Being free means the right to physically correct your child if he/she needs it, within reason. Being free is much more than just being as obnoxious as possible on message boards just to get reactions. Grow up.

If you can't correct a child with verbal reasoning, then you are the one who needs to grow up, and you shouldn't have children. The freedom you want means to rob the child of his/her freedom to go about life with feeling physically threatened by those who are suppose to love and guide them..

I have a question for you; "at what age do you stop hitting your children"? I'll bet it's when they get big enough to fight back...:wah:

I never had to hit 'em much. Unlike liberal idiot kids, mine learned fast. And they are all die hard conservatives to this day.

Just curious, hoppy, what was it that offended you most, my use of "Moses'" name, the fact that I insulted your conservative icon, Charlton Heston, or that you exposed yourself as a child abuser, and thats my fault?

Just your atitude about someone who died. Don't matter it was C. Heston or someone else. I hated Bill Clinton but If he died I would grant him due respect.

Child abuse? That's a liberal thing that came about after my kids were grown. Thanks to you people, parents are afraid to correct their little snotball kids.

When I die, hoppy, you can say anything you want about me...:)

I respect people, living or dead, that have earned it...Charlton Heston didn't earn it, neither did Jerry Fallwell

I say what I want about people now, to their face, because I ain't a chicken sh!t liberal.
