We're winning?

Post by spot »

Talking about porous borders - do countries generally have guards out on their borders to stop people leaving, or are they there instead to process people coming in? I'm really quite puzzled that entry to Iraq from Syria should be seen as a Syrian responsibility, and not an Iraqi one. Is northbound migration across the Mexican border policed by the US or the Mexicans?

Of course, to the best of my knowledge, the US isn't trying to pick a fight with the Mexicans.

Too many weapons coming from Ukrainian warehouses through Turkey and Syria. Iran is definitely tampering. It's like listening to a Soviet analyst in, say, 1986. The terrorists have too much money coming from American pockets by way of - well, America, really.. Too many weapons coming from Pakistani warehouses over the passes... and did you hear Colonel North has actually gone to jail for selling weapons to Iran, of all places? Why do the Americans do these things?

I wonder whether there's a similar motive?

I asked for a few pertinent examples of the reverse, that's all, when politicians were willing to take unpopular stands, because they believed in something.

Scrat wrote: The motive is the same in the eyes of the Mujahahdeen and all concerned, throw the invaders out at any cost. When we do leave nothing will have been accomplished except for the breeding of more terrorists and the like.I think you're wrong, Scrat. That might have been the motive in the eyes of the Mujahahdeen, while the Russians were in Afghanistan, but it wasn't the motive of the Americans who paid them. The Americans paid them in order to bleed the Russians white. Just like they fed satellite intelligence to the Iranians to bleed the Iraqis white, while at the same time feeding satellite intelligence to the Iraqis to bleed the Iranians white. The motive of the paymasters, then and now, doesn't seem to be to throw the invaders out at any cost. Where would they benefit from that?

I don't know how the oil will make up for the cost of the war in Iraq. It's cost is up to 179 billion dollars at this site Cost of War In Your City It's a running total site where you can find the cost of the war in your state or city. Of course, you can't put a dollar figure on all the lives lost.... :-1
