Where do you go to get answers when you have been to doctor after doctor and still sickness plagues you.

I thought doctors were the ones who knew symptoms and testing and results. But it seems I am wrong in my assumption. Seems I am haveing to walk into the Dr. Offices and say symptoms indicate this can you test for this, symptoms indicate that can you test for that. They have dished out pills for this and pills for that yet my poor daughter remains ill. We are approaching 10 months with no concrete results.

I am sooo dam frustrated!!!

Sorry to hear about your daughter Minks. How sick is she? 10 months is a long time, can you not take her direct to the hospital or ask the doctor to refer you to a specialist.

Oh gawd Pina, we have been into emergancy 2 times, she has had ulcer testing, irritable bowl testing, numerous pregnancy tests, testing for diabetes gone on drugs for what they thought was a bacterial infection, STD testing, all of this has come up negative. She currently she is on heavy doses of iron as of friday they determined she is annemic, but this has nothing to do with the fact that for no reason at all she suddenly develops stomach pains and looses her stomach contents. We are back to the Dr on wednesday and now I have to suggest the look into checking her gallbladder this bit of info comes from my mother, her bf's mother, and my dear friend Raven. Why aren't doctors telling me this.

My poor daughter stands 5'9" tall and can't keep her weight over 100lbs. It is heartbreaking watching her struggle. What makes it worse we have lost 3 grandparents to cancer and my mom is a breast cancer survivor and my daughter is petrified. (I won't admit to her that I am too)

I'm so sorry that your daughter is going through so much pain Minks,

and i hope that she gets to see a doc that can find the answer.

My sister & niece went through a very similar situation, and they both had Edometritis.

My thoughts are with your family, good luck on wednesday xxxxxxx

It must be awful for you, and all that worrying isn't going to help. You must keep pestering the doctors until you find out the problem. When they tested her for the ulcer did they do that thing with the camera down her throat to have a look into her stomach?

no they did the barrium milk shake. Yes we are going to beat the doctor up again Wednesday. It is so frustrating no worries about me, I am not letting on to my daughter that I am worried about this.

Thanks abbey too I am trying to keep my spirits up for the childs sake.

Can't offer any additional practical advice, minks, but I'm really hoping that Wednesday proves more productive in resolving your daughter's problem. I wish you both the best, truly.

my thanks you guys, I sure hope so too. She so badly wants to go to work but can't function for 8 hours in a row without feeling awful. If we can illiminate the anemia (6 weeks to go) this eliminates the dizzy spells and fainting. Next step we hope to find out about Wednesday or start some new direction.

Again thanks all I just had to vent or whine.

MInks....insist they do an abdominal ct scan or MRI- then if that comes back nothing - tell them you want a doppler (internal) scan of her vaginal area and uterus.. To me it sounds as if she has a blockage in the lower intestine..also have they checked her stool for bacteria..Sometimes pain can defer itself to the frontal area..Just some ideas -Good Luck - being sick is so hard on anyone.....let alone some one who is just starting her life as an adult....HUGS!!:-4

Minks, my best friends' son has a similar problem. Some digestive thing the regular doctors can't straighten out. They finally went to a Chiropractor who does homeopathic medicine. I don't know what treatments he is getting, but they say the condition has improved to the point that the boy is no longer in constant pain. Part of it is dietary, and unfortunately, conventional medicine is pathetically ignorant of diet, as my wife, who is a registered dietician will testify. Chiropractors are sometimes quacks, but sometimes they're great because they try non-conventional treatments that regular MD's know nothing about. If you know anyone who is really into natural remedies and knows a good Chiropractor who practices them, you might give this avenue a try.

Damn, Minks...I can't believe she's STILL sick. How totally frustrating for you!! I wish I had an answer for you other than, just go in and pitch a fit until you get answers. Other than that, I'll just offer my hopes that you get this straightened out quickly. I'm pulling for you and your daughter. :yh_hugs

I have to agree with Mom - I was going to suggest a PET or CT scan too.

Minks, when taking her iron... she should try to take it with foods high

in Vitamin C (or drink a glass of oj with it) because that helps with the

absorption. And take it the opposite time of day from when she takes

any other supplements, such as A, E, or calcium. (Can "fight" in the

gut)

Also, I really hate to say it, but has anyone ruled out psychological

factors? I do NOT think that's it, but maybe it should be investigated.

Oh and whats most crushing I watched her have a bed time snack of a bagle with a little margerine on it and not 10 minutes after she was doubled over in pain. Arrggghhhh I can't wait to tell the DR all that is on my mind.

anewlife wrote: Minks - Doctors are all trained the exact same way - so they all follow protocal and get the same results. This is good practice for most illnesses, but when somehting comes along that is outside the norm, it shows the weakness of standardization.

I would suggest several items; first research the symptoms, Doctors are on a schedule and rarely asses deeply enough - become an expert... They are no smarter than you - but have concentrated in an area. Go to the internet the library etc.

Next - seek out alternative medicine - I am not talking faith healers, but Eastern medicine - it works; especially after modern medicine has failed.

Lastly = track the tests that have been taken - when talking to a new doctor provide a list and tell him it is no use doing the same thing over again - perhaps he/she will try something new.

Hope this helps

Bit of an update and some good news. My daughter has gone 1 full week pain free. We have monitored food to no avail. She is eating everything in sight currently with no ill effects. However what I have really noticed, is the reduction of stress that she has. I don't know if this is anything valid, but she is acting much calmer and things seem to have settled down. We still await tests and appointments for specialists and document everything. So no clue.

Thanks all for the great suggestions.

Wow, I am glad your daughter is feeling better. It always seems so unfair when someone so young has to go through unidentifiable health problems. If her symptoms come back though, I would see if you can test her for Crohn's disease. It's a long shot, but you never know.

Oh believe me I am still waiting for an appointment with a gastrointestinal specialist for her just incase.

I have thought of crohns too. All these things are going to be tossed at the specialist.
