We weren't actually on the beach, but on a grassy meadow right by the surf- a park called Leffingwell's Landing, not far from Hearst Castle. The sky was thinly overcast, just enough to mellow out the sun, and the temperature was mild. There was almost no wind. It was really remarkable weather for that particular spot- it's usually pretty cold and windy.

(My sister married a terrific guy- they're both PhD's. their website is Kairios.com)

I agree,Peg. I loathe the song.

I don't know who sang it in the seventies, but I don't like "Band of Gold" either. Yuck!

Even though she had a great voice---Leslie Gore's songs are yucky too. :(

i don't know if it's been mentioned, but a top runner-up for worst vomit-inducing song of all time would have to be "you're having my baby" by paul anka. *hurl* :yh_sick

turbonium wrote: How come nobody's mentioned that classic, Achy Breaky Heart?! :wah:Yes, why HASN'T anyone mentioned that "song"? Let me explain how much I hate this song. I hate this song with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns. I loathe, despise and detest this song SO much, that when the band in my bar started playing it the other night, I walked out to the floor, went to my waitress and said, "Come get me when this song is over." I stood in the parking lot, admiring the bikes till she came and got me. When I went back in and the band took a break, I told the lead singer, "If you ever play that song again while I am working the bar, or even IN the bar, I'm gonna bust a beer bottle upside your head. And then I'm gonna get mean."

Sorry, Val!!!

LC, that Paul Anka song runs a close second to the "other" song mentioned here!

Good one, Tan. You managed to remind me of Max Romeo's "Wet Dream" and believe me, that wasn't very nice of you.

"Look how you're big and fat, like a big Big Shot. You've a crumpet too big for joke, it look funny to me. Lie down, girl, let me push it up, push it up, lie down."

Great reggae beat. Unutterable lyrics. I even had to play my old copy to remind myself what they were, too.

Max Romeo had a thing about big mommas. "Hey Fatty Bum Bum" was one of his, too. (correction: apparently not - Carl Malcolm, but they sound very alike to me)

Throw all the punch you want to, I can take them all.

If they don't have to be hit parade material, there's one singalong round-the-campfire song I can't cope with... http://www.bwstm-guiding.org.uk/Songs/song09.htm - it needs all the movements to make it particularly vile, of course.

Wolverine, I do like Patsy most of the time. But 13 years? Gawd!

My daughter was six when we went to Disneyland. We went on that doll ride; she didn't want to go but we made her of course. She told me later she hated it beyond words, it all freaked her out and she still harbors ill feelings! Ha...

Lynn Anderson: "I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden. Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain some time."

If that's Country, then it put me off Country for years. That is one disgusting lyric.

Pat Benitar's Hell is for Children. Song totally puts chills down my spine.

Could think of several that I dislike and then would be cursed with one of them in my head. This way I have a good song stuck in my head.
