i cannot express my horror, anger and disgust sufficiently..... i just saw a preview of a new video game due out august 15. the sole object of the game is to kill as many police officers ar possible, while using innocent civilians as human shields. will people buy this abomination for their teens? should anyone buy this obscenity? what purpose does it serve? FUN???.........7Online.com: 25 To Life: Does the Video Game Go Too Far? It may be the future of video games: "25 to Life." It's a game that allows you to choose between gangsters and cops. The more you kill, the more you win. ........................

LC - there are so many violent video games out there. I do not agree with it and I have written to my congressman. The violence is gross and most of them are not to be sold to those under 18 - yeah right!!!

It is disgusting and frightening. Free speech can only survive if people exercise responsibility with it.

Eidos the gaming company who created this should be held to account! and the licencing benefactors, Microsoft and Sony corporations.

i blame all three for this kind of mindless violence dished up for popular consumption and the fattening up of their corporate coffers.

it's all about $$$ to them however i'm sure if enough people protested directly at them and threatened to boycott their products they may pull their heads in.

Are there age limits on games in the US? We're having a big debate in the UK about selling games to under age kids.

while not directly addressing this particular game, this article is worth a read.

http://gr.bolt.com/articles/violence/violence.htm

i've felt for a long time that violent video games have the opposite effect of what the popular press would have us believe. violent video games *reduce* real violence, by 'venting' violent impulses away from the real world.

Paul, thanks for that article. I think my favorite line was:

So is the media and the government flat out lying to us?

Gee, what a surprise to think that's happening! It makes sense, and I really don't believe that if my 16-year old son plays this game, he's going to go out and start shooting cops and hookers. So why is it that I cringe thinking of him playing the game anyway? Because the thought of advocating such actions is wrong to me. And then I think about it more and say to myself, "If you're worried Josh can't determine the difference between real life and a video game, you're doing a lousy job as a mom."

I do believe I got sucked into the general consensus that these games breed violent behavior. ME! The person who has no faith in our media in the first place! Damn, they played to the sensibilities of parents, and it worked. Kinda irritates me. Thanks again, Paul. It was a real eye-opener!

I can understand (you being a cop) how you would take it personel, and if it were a game where you only kill cops would most deffinatly be unhealthy.Because for anyone to single out anything in those types of games would be sick in my opinion.Im just talking about a simple since of humor not singling out cops.

Well being the obsessive gamer that I am I do have to agree, and say that violent games should remain. Though I do worry about the backlash that the industry is getting from the increasing number of protest groups.

I know that a new game called 'Bully' is being made and has already received huge complaints against, as it is designed with you taking the role of a bully and, well beating people up.

The statement was made as a humorous gesture, that you may have to be prepared to defend your arguements. After all thats what we do here, debate , argue and confer with other members over various subjects, not throw a hissy fit for goodness sake. :-2
If I can take a shot at this, Arnold: I think this guy was just making a statement, a general comment that he's not real concerned with voicing his opinion, and he's not aware of how a remark like that can come off sounding snide. I believe he's also fairly young, and unfamiliar with how this place operates. True, he will have to back up his positions in the more serious discussions, (not that this one isn't serious) with fact, but I get the impression that this comment wasn't meant to be snarky, just a hair defensive. After your pointed attempt to say "...and I hope you stay" I can understand how you would be a bit peeved at his rather blunt reply.

Michael, (I think that's what he said his name was) kid gloves work better, especially when a member has made it obvious that they were encouraging you to stick around. Welcome to FG, by the way! I hope you hang out with us, too.

well i am going to be a bit snarky here myself. the poster is 18. i was a cop when he was in his nappies. i do welcome him here as a new poster. but if you know me at all, and he does not, i have never said the games cause murders. but i will say that certain things influence the gullible, the young, the suggestible, the disturbed, the criminal, and the stupid among us. this game that i mentioned ADVOCATES KILLING COPS!! THAT'S WHAT IS WRONG!! THAT'S WHAT IS EVIL!! mein kampf advocated killing Jews. we can have a gazillion video games, i don't care. but when you want to make it fun and games to kill cops you better believe it's wrong. or perhaps we could have a video game for the killing of classmates a la columbine, or the herding of people into gas chambers, damn that would be fun, or maybe a game showing how to fly airplanes through skyscrapers....oh here's one...a game showing how to plant bombs on subways. or perhaps a game showing how to mow down children on schoolyards with a mac-10....all in fun right??? play all the games you like, but don't tell me it is not obscene to advocate murder for a giggle.

LC, I don't believe voicing your opinion is snarky, either. I knew this guy was young, and one day he will understand our contempt for things that advocate and promote and encourage violence. Hopefully.

Actually, I was more concerned with Arnold's perception of what he said, than his (Michael's) original comment.

But you know what? Even when you "snap" back, you do it very politely! Much more so than I do when I snap!!

while not specifically about this particular game, it is topical and fairly recent. and hits the nail on the head. worth giving it a read.
