I'd appreciate a hug or two or even five
I've hesitated sharing my personal life on here, but I thought I'd let my sweet friends of the garden what is going on in 'Wendy's world'....
I am one of those statistics of foreclosures, after 17 years of living in a home I had built for my son and I (at the time my oldest was just a baby) and struggling for the last 5 years to keep me and the boys in this house after the ex left....I've given up due to advice from my attorney. So, mid December I knew what to expect and to start looking for a home for the boys and I....as time went on, I was searching and holding out for a house 2 doors down from me....long story short, that didn't work out, but I didn't know that until last week when the house officially went to foreclosure.
I was concerned about finding a home for us with the bad credit report at this time, but knew that I had a good job to back me up and had that going for me. Welllllll, this past Friday I walked into work and was met by my bosses first thing in the morning, they sat me down and told me they couldn't afford to pay me anymore, and that they gave me 2 weeks severence pay.
So, now I am going to be homeless within 2-3 months, and I have no job to back me up.
I know in my heart of hearts that everything is going to work out and we will be fine, but in the meantime, I would love and appreciate prayers, beams and cyber hugs!!!:-4:-4:-4

That sucks - big time.
I have every faith that you will turn it around - you're too good a person not to.
May all be well in Wendy's World very shortly :-6

It's horrible to suddenly have the rug pulled from under you.
I'm your fan Wendy, I'll queue for a hug.

Oh God Wendy.... Ive been in your shoes. Saying that everything will be alright doesnt help. And the hugs are great, but they arent going to keep a roof over your head. You have major decisions to make. You are going to have to dredge up every personal contact you have to find a place to live. A move might be a consideration. In order to help you, I would have to know exactly what it is you are qualified to do for a living. I can tell you that rents down by me are cheaper than where you are. Screw the bad credit... there are ways around that. Credit scores have become some kind of a nightmare
game, to keep us living in fear. Time to bale.... scale down... and figure out a way to survive. Seems like your in for an adventure too. Dont be scared. Everything for a reason, and it will be tough.. but it will be ok. Anything I can do to help........ youve got it.

Thank you so much to everyone!!
Weeder, I know you are right and I'm in "survival mode"...I need to find somewhere to rent, even if its temporary, but it probably would be better to have a job reference, so I'm trying to figure out which way to turn to.
I have considered a move out of this area tbh, but my kids have never known another area, and honestly I am a creature of habit also. So, yes...this will be an adventure, and we don't even want to mention the 2 dogs, 4 cats...which includes a pregnant momma ready to pop any day now....
:-3
I am searching for a job daily, have sent resumes out and will make calls tomorrow, I was busy helping my brother and his wife with their taxes and trying to catch up on my school work.....I'm in my 3rd block of 9 weeks and only have this and next week left, then only 9 weeks and I am done and will get my associates degree. I have fancied the thought of getting a waitress job (which I've NEVER done before) until I finish school....but that might be easier said than done....
I am open to any ideas and advice, thanks so much to all of you!!
I love the hugs!

You still HAVE a job refrence Wendy...... Hurry up, OVERLAP and use it to get your foot in the door. The pets may have to go. Kids are enough of a deterrent when renting. Waitressing? The flexibility of the schedule, and the cash ( if your in the right spot) can help you to survive, until you finish school. I have waitressed over the years with women who have masters degrees in psychology.

I am in Virginia, near Fredericksburg .... I am currently seeking a job. For the last 5 years I've been administrative support....for a builder, title company and last job was a computer company. I had a busy day today, am planning on hitting some major pavement of job searching tomorrow, I'm sending out the resume at minumum 2 a day over the internet. I have already applied for un-employment because it takes time, and going to apply for any services that I can qualify for through the department of social services, because, again...it takes forever.....
in between...I'm trying to calm down...I've broken out in hives already!! :-5:-5

The best advise I can give is to check into government work. City, county or state, they're the best places to work. Sounds like you have a good background that can go almost anywhere. Maybe check with volunteer services that have actual paid employees. Those are good places to network.
Otherwise, all my hopes and prayers go out to you. Sounds like you're getting prepared fairly well. Grab anything the government has to offer and stand proud!
It's been my experience that most people who get let go find better jobs in the long run. Hope that works for you.
Kisses!

Thank you so much for that 911!...actually I was laid off before finding this job and this last one was better than the one before that. I remember thinking that it would just be temporary because of needing a job so badly and then within months realized I was very happy there and intended on going NO-where. But, there is a reason why I started taking college courses, and that reason was that if I ever were laid off again I'd have some college to speak of to land a better job. So, I'm still in college until May-ish, if I can swing it....which I know I can, just a few bumps in the road...right?? right!.....
Thanks for reminding me to stand proud....I'm trying to do that!!:-6

Make sure you get a glowing letter of recommendation along with that severance check. Write it yourself for the boss' signature if you have to. This is no time to be shy.
You mentioned you're a creature of habit, so I spose relocating is out of the question? If not, San Antonio construction is still growing. Maybe your boss knows somebody who knows somebody.
Network network network! When I went awhile without paying work (8 months) or permanent work (another 6 or so) I went to a workshop that taught me about the two-minute resume. Work on a quick speech about yourself, your skills, and your goals so that if you happen to meet that contact that has that job opening, you'll be ready to wow them.
Good luck. Your spirit will shine through and you'll be okay with hard work. We're all pulling for ya. :-6

Wendy, what a predicament ! I really feel for you, and I send as much strength as I can, and my thoughts and wishes are with you. I know you will get there Wendy, it comes over on the threads, you have bags of character and you are so resilient and practical. Hey I don't know how far from New Jersey you are at the moment, but I am sure that Kathy Ellen really means to offer you a roof over your head, her bedrooms and her house for you, till you find your own place. People on here are brilliant.
Like all those living in different countries from you, I feel frustrated and a little helpless with regard to practical help for you, but I can at least send you a big English hug !

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
Whe he might have captured the victor's cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -
It's when things seem worst that you MUST NOT QUIT!.

WonderWendy I'm so sorry this has happened. I know several people in the same boat they are frantic. What I have learned from them is:
1. You can stay in your house till the bank actually throws you out. Which allows you to save money.
2. It usually takes about 6 months before that happens.
3. You have Children you will be able to get State benefits immediately. Don't let
them tell you otherwise.
4. The State also should have housing options as well look into that.
5. As Weeder said waitressing is a great way to pick up cash and tips fast.
6. As ACC stated network, ask anyone you know if they know of a job, or a house for rent.
7. Where the heck is your children's father in all this? He has an obligation to support them.
If there is anything I can do let me know there are resources out there use them.

Wendy, I have read your post many times since you posted it. Each time I read it I am hit with a mixture of anger and sadness. Do you mind if I get the ager out of the way
WHAT THE F@@K! I know that you have been trying to sort this out for some time now, and that you have sought legal advice.
But is your boys father not being made to help here - they are his children too - he has a responsiblility (through love or legally) to make sure they have a roof over their heads, food in their stomach and clothes on their backs
AND What the heck is the state doing about this - YOU KNOW THOSE PEOPLE YOU PAY TAXES TO!! I have seen many people here, and in the UK, who take the state for everything-housing, medical care, clothing, food, education ....... They cannot afford to work - they would be worse off.
Sorry Wendy that did not help you, I just think it is all wrong.
Anger burst over .
I can't help but think, that you not getting the house near you was a good thing. If you had, each day you would of driven by or walked passed the house with sadness in your heart. Each day reminding you of this time, and times gone by, like picking at a scab. You need to be able to move on to new beginnings, cherishing the good times in your home. Not allowing it to eat away at you like that.
I know from when we first came to the US that trying to find somewhere to rent which will allow pets is not easy. But there are places that will allow you to, it may take a while but they are out there. Also, how about putting your name down at all the local rescue centres - most have fantastic people who will foster your pets while you are getting yourself back on your feet. These foster families will look after them well, and you will be able to still see your pets whenever you want. They will also help you find homes for the kittens when they are ready.
Would you be prepared to move to PA? I know you would like to stay in VA, and to keep your boys in their current school/surroundings - I understand that, I would be the same :-4 If you would be prepared to move (hey you have family here), let me know, there could be a job here for you.
Wendy I wish you all the luck in this new beginning. Wipe the slate clean, and rebuild this next exciting stage in your life. I know you can do it - its the way you are :-4
I realise that I am 2 hours drive away from you (but over here that means nothing, hell! we are practically neighbours) - if you need me I will be there for you - this is not an empty gesture - I mean it. :-4

But is your boys father not being made to help here - they are his children too - he has a responsiblility (through love or legally) to make sure they have a roof over their heads, food in their stomach and clothes on their backs

Sorry Wendy that did not help you, I just think it is all wrong.

Sorry to hear that WW, that is a seriously tough situation, like some of the other posters said, take all the emotional comfort you can from people, and also take as much practical help you can find, and make some plans for dealing with the drastic situation. I am not as up on how such things work in the states, but I would imagine that its pretty tough over there when things go wrong, I am sure that the American posters will have much better practical advice on how to deal with the short term and long term issues.
Anyway, you take care petal, I hope something good turns up quickly for you, keep yourself as positive as possible. :-4

WW3, sorry it has taken me so long to let you know how sorry I am about your terrible dilemas you have in front of you that you have to face right now. If it doesn't rain - it FU****G pours. I hope this road in front of you will be as bumpless a road as possible for you and the kids. If there is something I could do, I would do it. Take care of you and your family, and you know we will all be thinking of you too, please feel free to PM if you need to just vent.
I'd appreciate a hug or two or even five

Carla's right
you can stay in your house until the Sheriff comes to the door & escorts you off the property @ 6 months.
Apply for all those State benefits immediately - food stamps - medical.
State also has forms for Phone discount - electricity could be paid - APPLY..
That's a savings - disconnect extra stuff - HBO/Cable, extra phone options etc..
Gees Kiddo - take care of yourself - this will work out

I can't tell you how much all of the thoughts, hugs and concern means to me! I'm literally blown away and very greatful to all of you very much.
I have a friend that is an attorney who has been helping me through this, and she is a Real Estate Attorney, so very familiar with the procedure. We tried to get an investor to take over the property, they didn't want to touch it....the market just isn't plentiful enough for them to take it on...so I was back to square 1...
Basically, I used up my 6 months. I have MAYBE 3 months. The house went up for sale at the courthouse on Feb. 22 and I was given an option from the bank to get out in 2 weeks for 2,000....I declined due to no place to go. The other option is wait for Sherriff's office to escort me off the property which takes approx. 3 months, as much as I need the time, the thought of them coming and kicking us out of here, the ONLY house my kids have ever known, just takes me into a deep depression.
I know I need to pull up from my boot-straps, have a lot of work in front of me. I have the forms for assistance in front of me and unemployment office is requesting more information. I am steady applying for jobs and doing my school work and trying not to break out into any more hives....they really itch!!:-5:-5
To answer Patsy's question, I'm sleeping, but only a few hours at a time, and its not a sound sleep....
Thank you again to everyone for your love and support....I am so thankful!:-4:-4

Are you absolutely 100% certain you have exhausted all avenues that might help you prevent the loss of your home ?
The govt. right now is interested in helping people keep their homes and there are programs that can help you.
Is this because of an adjustable rate or an arm that came due ?
Have you seen this website ?
