Who We Really Are?

Post by A Karenina »

Of course! I say I am Goddess of the Universe, and people bow before me...at least when I'm carrying my AK-47. :p

You're very deep today. So now that I have my silly humor out of the way, I'll try to answer you properly.

Yes. But no as well.

We complain a lot about hypocrisy - about people saying they are one thing (like tolerant) when they are anything but that. Yet people are multi-faceted. We can't just label ourselves and them in an instant and expect that definition to firmly root us into the concept of "I am". It's very possible that a person who defines themselves as tolerant and yet isn't tolerant at all in my view is actually progressing towards that goal. Perhaps they are more tolerant today than they were yesterday.

Make sense? Cause it works in my head, I'm just not sure it's working on this post!

I define myself as certain things. Some are very real, hard to argue. I am an accountant. I am a woman. I am a mother. I am blue-eyed.

Some are much more vague. I am ambitious. I am open-minded. I am half-idealist, half-pragmatist. I am honest.

These could be argued by those who hold different standards for each term. To me, being honest means that I try very hard to be forthright with myself and others. Will I lie and say things I don't truly believe? Yes. Sometimes it's to avoid harm to another, sometimes it's so I don't hear an hour of ranting - my reasons are both selfless and selfish at the same time. Still, I consider myself honest because I don't deny my own wrongdoings once I have seen them. I don't take credit for things I haven't earned, and so on. But others may hold a different standard for honesty, and consequently they may view me as dishonest.

To say that the opinions of others has no impact on us is just hogwash, so I won't argue that point here.

Since we are all in a constant state of growth, we label ourselves according to what we believe we are, and we add those things we are struggling to be. Since we also hold varying standards for every label we apply, the answer is both yes, and no.

Now that was helpful, huh? LOL
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Oh, I forgot to add.

Are females more honest than the males? I think so.
