Tax rebates deal announced

Post by grh »

I, for one, am just flabbergasted that congress and the white house are willing to take such a controversial and bold move during an election year of all times!:wah:

By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Congressional leaders announced a deal with the White House Thursday on an economic stimulus package that would give most tax filers refunds of $600 to $1,200, and more if they have children.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Congress would act on the agreement — hammered out in a week of intense negotiations and uncustomary bipartisanship — "at the earliest date, so that those rebate checks can be in the mail."

President Bush praised the agreement at the White House, saying it "has the right set of policies and is the right size."

Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

I read about this earlier. Still waiting for the other shoe to drop :wah: Just seems impossible for this to actually make it all the way through to where we actually have checks in hand!

happened a few years ago. we're all talking about it here at work. we figure it's an election year and you don't want to be the democrat or republican that is not 'for the people'...:wah:

interestingly enough though, while we all blew the bonanza last time around, this time everyone is talking about paying bills..it's about survival ....

This stuff cracks me up!:wah:

Rebates could be in your hands by May

.......

People with income less than $75,000 would get a rebate equal to the taxes they paid in 2007, up to $600. Couples with income less than $150,000 could get up to $1,200. Those who earned more than $3,000 but owed little or no taxes would get a flat $300, or $600 per couple.

So a low-income family of four — with $35,000 in income and virtually no tax liability — would get $1,200. That includes the flat $600 per couple and $300 for each child.

A single person earning minimum wage would receive the lower rebate, $300.

..........

Raise your hand if you made 75000 last year as a single individual and only paid 600 in taxes! Okay, now email me your accountants contact info...:wah:

I won't get a rebate but maybe BTS will. We file separately or the government would rape us both instead of just me. I say everyone should enjoy the money which is why the government is doing it. Don't we usually head into a recession when the President is about to be a different party?
