How do you connect?

Post by grh »

Just been trying to help a friend figure out why they are running so slowly with their new computer and after about 20 minutes he tells me that he is dial-up. He replaced his old machine with the latest technology(running vista :yh_sick) because it was running slow and yet didn't opt for DSL or broadband because it would cost a little more a month then he is paying now.

So let's take a little snapshot of the group and see how you folks are connected to the garden today.
Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

Brodband/DSL speed is key if you want to run VISTA. Your friend better consider getting a fast connection or his ability to get on the internet will be ZERO.:-5 It really isn't that much more expensive in the long run.

just switched from dsl to cable....and tbh...I don't see a difference, both are nice and quick.....my mother has dial up and I realize how spoiled I am when I try to help her find something on the internet and it takes forever to come up....:-5:-5

Carrier pigeon and dial up are the same thing if you ask me and that cracked me up btw!:wah:

Broadband cable. I loooves it. :-4 Once upon a time we had ADSL and liked it a lot. Then we moved to another apartment and found that, due to a misunderstanding on the part of the leasing agent, we had no recourse but to return to dial-up for awhile. I thought my eyes would crust over. One more move later I can attest that cable internet has proven to be very nice indeed.

I get the impression some are not pleased with Vista here. It came installed with our new system (natch) and I must say I quite like it. Of course this is the opinion of someone who just replaced an old machine running Millenium, the Hades dwellers' choice.

I have vista on my laptop but its 2gb and 160gb of ram.....If peeps try to run vista with less than a gig it will run very slow. Vista needs so much more than xp and its predecessers needed.

I like vista :-6

Dial-up works quite well with ForumGarden but you definitely need to turn off all the graphics options in My Settings for it to feel usable. If you do that the screens rarely take more than a couple of seconds to access. Google and Wikipedia are fine too. There are definitely some sites that are impossible to handle though, not everyone keeps dial-up users in mind.
