A really, really stupid misunderstanding

I always remember this sort of thing when I`m a bit "merry"

Once at our school and I`m talking about 40 or so years ago (!) a teacher was playing basketball with the kids and accidentally dead-legged a boy. This boy, whose name I CAN remember but I`ll give him a TOTALLY false one so as not to embarass him if by any chance he is reading this, fell writhing to the floor, rolling from side to side and holding his leg.

The PE teacher shouted, "What`s wrong with `David`?"

A few other pupils said, "Please, sir, `David` said you KNEED him"

"Eh, "said the PE teacher, "I don`t NEED `David`!" And with that he just carried on playing. Priceless!
