What Dog to buy???
As christmas is upon us and i have run out of ideas of what to get my 3yr old nephew i finally decided to buy him a dog?? Any ideas what the most friendly types are an were i could get one??
What Dog to buy???
Does the family want a dog? Are they ready to take on a dog? Do they have the facilities for a dog? Are they ready for the commitment? Are they ready for the vet bills? Will you consult the family about giving a dog as a presant?
If so, how old is your nephew? How big is the house? How bigs the land? Are there areas nearby for walking the dog? :-6

Before you run out a buy your Nephew a dog, I hope that this has been discussed and agreed with his parents as they are the ones that will need to care for it. There should be no surprises when it comes to buying pets for people, it is a big responsibility.
What Dog to buy???
I agree, not a cool idea unless its been discussed thoroughly with the intended owners....

Wow and I almost fell for this. A shell to keep him under the tree for a few days. Right.
I was going to say that no 3 year old is ready for or needs a pet, but then I got to the above mentioned comment.

okaythe shell was a bad idea, i just wanted to make it suprise. He has stuffed animals an there bore him as they would me, a dog gives him a companion an summat to look after

It sounds like he might have his hands full looking after his uncle :-3, and visiting him in one of 'those' places

Well he may find it cute to look at and fun to play with but at 3 years old, he wont be looking after it, hes too young to fully understand the dog's needs, So inevitabely it will end up being the parents that look after the dog.
Dogs need regular walks, vet bills, food and treats and its not cheap.
Infact all pets even goldfish have needs to be met that cant possibly be met by a 3 year old.

And what happens when the boy pulls the dog's tail or gets rough with the puppy as all babies will and the dog snaps at him? I work in animal rescue and I'm very familiar with little kids getting pets for gifts. Also, what will you do when he gets bored with the puppy? A 3 year old does not have a real long attention span. Wait until he's 6 or seven years old and understands what a dog is before you get him one. Three is just way too young for pets.

I bought a shining stars cuddly toy for my daughter this year.
They are really cool as you get to go online and name a star.
Shining Stars teddy bears
Choose your plush Shining Star friend and when he arrives you can you'll have a secret code to sign on to the Shining Stars web site. You can then register a star in your chosen name with the International Star Registry.

Dress the dog up as a reindeer and put him in front of the house, the kid will think it is a decoration.

Three is an ideal age to get your nephew a dog for Christmas. If the child's much older he might form an emotional bond or attachment but at three he'll contentedly eat the traditional January Dog Stew after a couple of weeks of losing interest in walkies.
Aim to get him a dog around 7 pounds in weight. If it's much lighter than that it'll be hard for his parents to singe the hairs off over the fire without burning themselves and if it's much larger their freezer won't cope with the number of portions they end up with.

What an excellent idea. I hear the spotted dogs taste the best :sneaky:
Then after you have eaten him, you could all play this game with the left-overs ....

As a vital cog in the communications industry your efforts are much appreciated by all the people on your round, but as a background for engaging in an online forum you seem at a slight disadvantage compared with Pheasy. Besides, she's prettier.

Be careful. Dalmations can have a very nasty temperament. Originally they were bred as carriage guard dogs. People think because of the cartoon they must be great but they have a dark side. Its in the genes.
