America, Russia, Japan and Canada. These 4 countries came to this conference with one mission. To derail the process and insure that no binding targets were set for any CO2 emissions at all. Well, despite some pretty hard efforts to stop them they got their way and we have an agreement that is not worth the paper its written on as its an agreement to do nothing. The main culprit is the US, whose administration will go down in history as the most irresponsible, and destructive bunch of idiots that nation has ever had as leaders. I mean that.
Well, you can forget anything being done that will have any difference on the climate for about the next 10 years. Truly pathetic, we are facing a global catastrophe of biblical proportions and all that the US and its cronies can do is bang on about their profit margins and their economic philosophies, and throw insults at the countries that are trying to do the hard work of reducing their emissions. We are running out of time, the planet is heating up, we don't have any targets for reduction at all for reducing any CO2, and the world will continue to increase CO2 emissions regardless of the consequences, in my opinion we are screwed, as there isn't a chance we will get anything done in time now to prevent a climate catastrophe. :-5

Not only that, but all the private jets that were flown to Bali were a huge waste of resources and left a lot of carbon emissions for basically a tropical holiday for the big shots. It'd be ironic if it wasn't so repulsive.

I think its way too little, way too late. The politicians are just not taking this seriously and thats the truth. Its not just the U.S.'s fault, all of our countries seem to not be able to grasp how little time they have, and what the consequences are. But those 4 countries that I mentioned are the main offenders, or at least their leading politicians are. Its not fair to blame the ordinary people.

Certainly in England (as opposed to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, as I'm not sure what coverage they had), the media said very little about this conference - if more had been reported I think maybe protests would have taken place before the conference was concluded.

The most important thing for EU governments to do is to press on with putting new technologies and systems in place to enable their nations to generate power without (at the very very least) increasing CO2 levels, and in my opinion that means nuclear power and renewables, as well as a much reduced role for fossil fuels into the future, it will be diffcult to cut CO2 emissions by 50 percent by 2050, but not impossible, unfortunatly we probably need to go further than that as well. More research should be funded and encouraged into devleoping sustainable energy systems and practices as well as environmental remediation programs. And also very importantly governemnts need to upgrade infrastructure and also get better national emergency plans in place for the events that are inevitably going to happen such as major floods, droughts, very powerful storm systems, soil erosion, disruption to growing seasons and shifts in seasonal patterns etc. If we set the example it will benefit us, and hopefully will show the way forward for both accepting the reality of this problem and the need for local, national, and international action by ordinary people, business and government.
