Back from my flying visit to Birmingham

Yep, I was over in Brum (UK) to watch the Villa get hammered by Portsmouth last weekend, now I am not saying that I started those vile chants against Harry Redknapp, but if I had would that have been wrong?

Have to say that they are doing a fair bit of work on the old town, and its looking a lot better around the Bull Ring area than I remember from being a kid. I also got to see Castle Vale where I live, Sparkbrook where I still have rellies, and Tamworth. I wonder where Uncle Kram is actually has he lives around the Erdington way.

Oh and the Balti's are good as well. My sis is going back over to watch the Villa-Man Utd match in January.

The Bull Ring is much better now,and did you see Brindley Place,it is very nice there.I lived in Sparkbrook many years ago.There was quite a large Irish community there then,and had many jolly musical nights in the local pubs.

I also lived in Erdington,I had know idea uncle Kram lived that way.

After I left home, I lived in 3 flats in Erdington before buying my first house there. The house I'm selling is in Tamworth, but I'm living 5 days a week back in Erdington at my girlfriends until the sale completes, so I've gone full circle.

Yeah, I was born in the Sorrento in Brum all those years ago in 1971, then I lived on the Vale as a child, till 1980 when we moved back to Ireland, still have quite a few rellies in Sparkbrook and Tamworth, which is quite nice I have to say. I was reliably informed that the McDonalds in Tamworth is the busiest drive thru in Europe? That was something I didn't know!

Hey Uncle Kram, I finally got to see the Vale! That was great, but they knocked Comet House down where I lived, but the normal house where I lived after 77 is still there, near the Skylark pub, that was Brilliant! Unfortunatly Harpers don't own the shop there any more. Shame.

You used to live on what was a famous and important airfield, during WW2 then Galbally. Castle Vale was built on the old Castle Bromwich Aerodrome.

I know! The Farnsborough Rd was apparently an airstrip originally, it is quite straight as well!

That McDonalds is a mile from my house, but I've never been there.

I'm impressed! I usually succumb to the Big Mac thing about twice a year, but I guess thats not so bad. Now we share a special bond as I have never eaten in the Drive Thru in Tamworth either!

Whats the name of the castle in England where they have outdoor concerts sometimes ?

I think the guy that did Tubular Bells played there.

Lots of them do it - Hampton Court and Leeds Castle are two that jump to mind.

Mike Oldfield did a concert at Edinburgh Castle - is that the one you're thinking of?
