James Bulger Remembrance March: Feb 12, 2008

Post by RedGlitter »

Good morning. One of our new members asked that I post the following..... please don't sign your name here but if you choose, paste this into an email and send to those you think would be interested.

--------------------------------------

Please let as many people as you possibly can know about this event. If you can copy and paste the contents into an email and pass it on then that would be great.

Subject: JAMES BULGER REMEMBRANCE MARCH - 12 Feb 2008

12th Feb 2008 12:00 pm at Parliament Square with the march ending at 10 Downing Street

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN. EVEN IF YOU DON'T WISH TO ATTEND, YOU MAY KNOW SOMEONE WHO DOES.

PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME TO THE E-PETITION AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS EMAIL EVEN IF YOU CAN'T ATTEND.

WHEN YOU ARE THE 200th PERSON PLEASE FORWARD IT WITH THE TITLE 'E-PETITION' TO THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS : JamesBulgerLondonMarch@googlemail.com THEN SET THE COUNTER BACK TO 1 AND FORWARD IT ON TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN.

In 1993 one of the worst atrocities of our time was committed when two-year old toddler, James Bulger, was led away by the hand by his killers, two ten year-old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables. Each served just 8 years before being released and given new identities in 2001. James Bulger never got to see his 3rd birthday, he was tortured, beaten and left to die alone face down on a rail-track. He was then run over by an oncoming train and his small body discovered 2 days later. Prior to this tragic afternoon he was just a normal little boy out shopping with his mum.

Child victims and their families are being let down by our government & the criminal justice system. In many cases too lenient a sentence is passed down. More public money is spent on looking after the perpetrators than the victim's families. If you want to help put an end to this then join the march.

If you want a safer future for our children then join the James Bulger Remembrance March on the 12 February 2008 (the 15th anniversary of James' murder). Also remembering: Megan Russell, Sarah Payne, Damilola Taylor, Amanda Dowler, Holly Wells & Jessica Chapman, Andrew Jones, Danielle Beccan, Madeleine McCann (missing), Rhys Jones, Jonathan Matondo and the many other children whose lives have either been cut tragically & violently short or through abduction separated from their families (See detailed list below).

Goals of the march:

- To remember the innocent child victims of our society

- To make our government acknowledge their responsibility to the families of child victims.

- To demonstrate in numbers that lenient sentences are not acceptable and duties to protect our children are not being met.

- Child killers released back into society should no longer benefit from the privilege of secret new identities.

Follow the links below and then decide whether or not this march across London is worthwhile!

If you would like a reminder/confirmation email sent to you approximately 1 week before the event then please send an email to the following address: JamesBulgerLondonMarch@googlemail.com & you will receive a return reminder closer to the event. To show your support please add your name to the list of supporters below, this petition will be passed to the government and their response made public.

If you are a business or small company and would like to provide assistance with this event be it advertising the march, donating banners etc. then please pledge your help by sending details to JamesBulgerLondonMarch@googlemail.com and we will be in touch.

Finally, to the best of our knowledge James Bulger's local council 15 years after his horrific murder have yet to erect a fitting memorial to mark this brave little boy's short life. We don't think this is right. £13.000 of tax payers money was allocated to protecting his killers identities after their release. In view of this we propose to provide donation buckets and those taking part in the march are invited to collect donations along the duration of the route. All monies raised will go towards funding a fitting memorial for James Bulger and we hope that his mother, Denise Fergus, will do us the honour of selecting a tribute that best remembers her son.

WE ARE A GROUP OF PARENTS WHO THINK OUR CHILDREN ARE THE MOST PRECIOUS GIFTS IN THE WORLD. AND WE WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO KNOW IT.

One of our new members will need to fill out one of these fairly quickly then.

i think you make a mockery of your own cause with some of the children you choose to include in the list.

you want the government to know that your children are the most important things in the world?

Howabout not leaving them in an appartment for hours on end by themsleves then?(Madeleiene mcann).

I'm quite interested to know what solutions are proposed to change the fact that "more public money is spent on looking after the perpetrators than the victims' families". Are we protesting in Parliament Square for the establishment of a fund equal in value to the cost of incarcerating the perpetrators, to be distributed to the families of the victims? Are the costs of administering the fund to be taken from the fund itself or is that an additional expense?

One of our new members would have done better to have added "please send in partially complete lists two days before the march", there will be an awful lot of signatories who don't appear on the final presentation because the e-petition they signed never reached its 200 signature target and failed to be submitted.

One of our new members might also have looked up how many mass protests have been allowed to assemble in Parliament Square on a Tuesday before marching on the Prime Minister's official residence. If it's given a permit this one will be a first. If it's not then I don't see a mechanism to pass on revised details to those who've agreed to attend, bearing in mind all those partial e-petitions that never got emailed back to the organizer. A web page would have been a sensible option. Ah well, it's already out and loose now, I don't suppose much can be done to change it.
