jeez the thought of this place without a moderating team would drive me to the hills and I do appreciate all the work tombstone and the team do to make this a generally happy forum. I just hope all this "whatever has gone on" passes and we can get on having some fun.:-6

What about the people who are visiting a site for the first time... everything's alien to them... on my first visit to a site... I had no idea what a 'thread' was or a 'post'.....

You don't have to post as mods... you can post as members with a mod status... works very well on other forums.

I don't think it's fair that you post as members when it suits... but then change your 'hat' at a moment's notice.....

No-one would think of you any differently..... you are a human being, just as we are..... but you have moderator status... 't is the only difference!

I work on the principle that if you treat people like children they are more likely to act that way. You have worked out what threads and posts are and now you know who the mods are.

We only change 'hats' when mods are called to answer questions.

Fair needs to be considered from all points of view.

It is also an assumption that no one would think of us differently. We all must make some assumptions, it seems.

For a forum of this size I would expect their to be more mods to be honest.

Just Google forums and you will get lots of choice:)

No, koan... you work on the principle that you bully anyone that takes your limelight!

You aren't 'fair' at all... you are a bully... yes, like in a playground, the difference being - you're a grown-up bully now!

And there we have it.

I'm in the middle of making dinner right now, but I think it is best if one of the other mods handles this accusation, anyway. It would be nice if you change your mind but there is not much I can do to affect that.

I left earlier this year because I personally don't care for the moderator approach. It bugged me enough that I needed a change of scenery. I've gone out and found other places to satisfy that need. But, in the time I've been gone I've been around on my daughters account... playing games, watching whats up and who.

I pop back in a lot more lately because I'm working on something for work that requires me to be on quite a bit and I know there is always someone to be found hanging out in the garden.

To be perfectly honest, although I don't care for moderation, I have seen no abuse of it -as it exists here currently. Doesn't mean it's not happening, just that I haven't observed it during my pop-ins.

If I do notice it, I will most likely just wander off to other forums. I would suggest that anyone else who has an issue with the way management chooses to run their business do the same.

Life really is that simple.

Time out here. I'm sorry but there's no need to gang up on Koan or refer to her as a bully. I would suggest if your getting worked up posting in this thread, to take a break and go discuss the merits of french fries and tator tots.

thanks!

Your fairly new, so I'm guessing you "heard" that Koan bullied a member away. I'm sorry, if you don't know the whole story, you shouldn't be making accusations.

No, being a moderator isn't about power tripping. Having "moderator" written under one's name on every post seems, to me, to have a taste of power tripping about it. As I said - I come here to post, not to feed my ego by power-tripping.

Having 'moderator' written under your name is an assurance to some members; it shouldn't be about members being afraid of moderators... but, when a member is conversing with other members, and all of a sudden.. a member puts his/her 'mod hat' on ... that is when the power trip comes into play!

People can sometimes very easily take things the wrong especially behind a screen, after all, you, after 142 posts seem to think you 'know' Koan, I am sure that if you stick around you will see that she is ok.:-6

After a while you tend to see lots of arguments and spats but who really is the winner? People that think that they have won have often lost the respect of their forum buddies and for the sake of what? I think if I ever got to that stage, I know where the report and ignore button is. :guitarist

I can't imagine letting myself be driven way by anyone other then myself. If you were banned, take it up with management. If you weren't banned, you made the choice to leave, just like I did.

Do like I did and visit other forums these folks you like can be found on. Or invite them to a forum you like yourself.

You seem to have some kind of major hardon going for koan at the moment. I can think of a handful of subjects koan and I have ever agreed on. Matter of fact we've been known to go at it rather forcefully from time to time. At no time did I confuse the person I was arguing with - with a site moderator. At no time did she ever so much as feel the need to remind me of her 'lofty position'. She simply gives as good(if not better sometimes-the turd) as she gets. She assumes I can take it. I respect that. I know she can take it, so I won't bother defending her to you or anyone else here.:wah:

wow.

welcome back, Diane :-6

I think there are a lot of people out there who have heard the same thing about me. It tends to happen in waves. I just wave back. Once in awhile someone decides I'm not an evil creature afterall and I gain a new friend. I think a few who thought I must hate them could verify that I don't hold grudges.

I am saddened when people insist on holding a grudge against me but, as I said, there's not much I can do about it.

The comments that a member has "heard about" me been "warned about" me or knows "the whole story" just reinforce what I said about the PM system. I'm tough enough to survive without wondering what y'all are saying behind my back. It's futile to worry about it. Obviously, since nothing has been said on the public boards about me lately, that a whole flurry was built behind the scenes that exploded here. It's unfortunate. If it wasn't being built around me it would be aimed at someone else, for that part, I'm glad to take the heat.

It's really a shame to see all this commotion break out on the boards..It appears to be stemming off of the fact that i gave an infraction to red glitter for innapropriate responses to a rape victim on this board..i made my decision as fairly as i could..i dont pick sides..i dont belong to any clique and do the best i can..it really didnt matter to me who red was talking to..the response from her were not right in my eyes as a mod..It is the same reaction i would have made if she had spoken to anybody else on this board in similar circumstances..As a team it was discussed and the infraction was overturned..case solved...thats the end of my discussion as a mod.

now..as a member..i am on this board ..everyday..i often dont post..because i dont see or feel the need to on some of the threads..my right..any remarks i make on this board are as a fellow board member..not a mod..i have that right to do that too..just like the rest of you do..too clear up any misinformation going on on this board..its true..that red glitter has told me that she no longer cares to be friends with me..that she is mad at me for not taking sides..with her..i am not a follower. i dont feel the need to hide behind anybody else.i think for myself..pick my own friends...i have no problems with anybody on this board..nobody..yet the lines have been drawn between red and i..at her request...yall can pick sides..fight , argue,,do what ever you will..it really doesnt matter to me..its a shame to me to see this all happening on the board..In red's attempt to "win" i am aware i am being maliciously maligned on the sidelines..whatever..do what you will. and in the fall out anybody talking to me is being accused of being a follower..not to be trusted by red glitter...You really should be ashamed of yourself. to involve so many in this .

I have no idea of the agenda on this except an attempt to isolate me and force me to leave fg..its not going to work..i dont play these games..never have..never will..

if you are curious as to why red is so upset with me..it is because her and magenta flame had a falling out and i refused to take sides..apparently if you dont choose red..you are not a friend...to red anyway...

i wont be sending pms on the sidelines..and gossiping on the sides about all this..i will post publicly from now on anything like this..going on..it appears to end the game a little quicker being played by others..

beyond this post i am done with all this petty game playing..think i will go find a dog pic to post :p

I'm not particularly fond of RedGlitter, but from my limited view, she's been very non-confrontational and uninvolved with the 'situation' that was going on in here yesterday.

I think she should get a little credit for not being goaded into a war of words.

Shutting up now. :lips:

I'm going to address Guppy's remarks and then I am done with this and with Guppy.

Guppy: my choice not to remain friends with you had nothing to do with anybody taking any sides anywhere. I don't play that. If you'd like me to post my actual reasons for all the forum to see, I can do that, but I doubt anyone else cares and you would most likely be very humiliated. It obviously grieves you that we are not friends anymore as this is the fifth time you have brought it up and I cannot help that. I suggest you stop dwelling on it and just accept it.

I will tell you this much, had we been friends when you told me on this board to "take a f.ucking hike" a few days ago, we would have not been friends any longer. My friends don't speak to me that way nor I to them, and a moderator does not speak that way to a member. You were wrong on both counts.

Now I am going to publicly tell you -although as politely as I can- to back off my coattails. Don't message me, don't insult me in any more of your posts, stop getting your cronies on my backside and leave me the heck alone.

I hope this will be the end of this now.

A hypothetical question ... if Tombstone doesn't get involved that much ... what happens if two, three, or even four of the remaining moderators are friends and they decide to "put pressure" on a member ... they will only need one more vote to censure or even ban someone ....

We are often in the mod section discussing reported posts kittypaws..sometimes we have to go back pages of posts to see the whole story beyond the one reported post.we discuss it..and make our decisions as a team..if one mod disagrees we dont hand out infractions or warnings..toombstone is often in the mod forum with us..you would be surprised how much we are doing..toombstone is the top guy here...He oversees what we do and his decisions are final..does that answer your question? He oversees everything we do..so there is no way we can teamup on a member..he would not allow it..

1. we get reported posts when other members see their friends losing arguements..we have to look at all sides..you would be surprised at how easy it is to see the team play there..

2. we get reported posts when two members are argueing and one is not winning..we get that alot..we get reported posts when one member says a ugly word but looking back at the thread we see several places where the other member was provoking ...

3, we get reported posts from members that have grudges on one member..it gets pretty obvious after awhile..because it is constant

4, we get reported posts when a member is having a bad day and just doesnt like the person they are reporting..

5. we get reported posts when a member is having an unusually bad day..and is usually not like that..

we are a team and make our decisions as a team..no..we dont always agree and there is much discussion going on that you all dont see..and yes we mod eachother..and toombstone mods us...do we make mistakes? yes..are we perfect? no.are we going to make people angry? yes..

One mod hits the infraction or the warning you see on the board but we make these decisions unaminously...after much discussion..and debate..

We get old members showing up with new nics..the same members showing up as two different nics..we discuss these..sometimes you see new members come and go..out of nowhere..what you dont realize is they are already members of this board and we delete the second nic..We have banned members sneaking in..

I hope this clears some of the questions up for you.

Dear All,

I have been a member of FG for a little over 3 years, I've had my ups and downs with some members

but on the whole I like to think I have been fair.

I really dont see why now at this time I have to come here and justify my actions to everyone.

As a moderator I look through all posts and pics and sigs to check that no-one violates the TOS.

Is it hard? No

Is it a pain in the arse? Sometimes Yes.

I have given infractions to members who I have considered my friend and lost their friendship because of it, hey-ho.

I dont post as often as I did because of it.

If a member like summer gets an infraction for insulting another member and then carries on doing it then she gets another one,

3 strikes and you're out, simple as that.

We tried snooze's suggestion (splitting the mods into area's) a couple of years ago and it did'nt work imo,

mainly because of the time differences, I'd come on FG in the morning and I would'nt be able to access an area full of obsene posts or spam because the mod for that area was in bed.

As for me "Putting pressure" on another mod to get someone banned, if you knew me you would know that the idea is laughable.

This thread has made me very sad knowing you feel this way.

if your a member of a forum and a friend gets banned surly you have a right to know why :-3:-3

if you're a member of a forum and a friend gets banned you might, I suppose, ask to know why. I can't imagine any answer would be forthcoming there since discussion in the moderator areas is necessarily confidential and sometimes based in part on information that doesn't appear in public threads such as, for example, the use of open proxies to bypass identification.

To a large extent, jimbo, the way people react to an initial warning or infraction often informs the subsequent decisions of the moderator team. I'd have thought that was self-evident. What might not be obvious is that the moderator team acts unanimously. There's no instance to my knowledge of any final decision in any matter being taken on a mere majority.

To turn this thread toward "who moderates the mods" the answer must surely be the management on whose behalf the moderators act. It is a function of management to guide, advise and occasionally override decisions. The guidance, advice or override is invariably correct and welcome, the moderators mere servitors.

Abbey, I think I'm right in saying you were a moderator the first time around, when I joined, in about May 2005? You were one of the first people to pm me and one of the first people I got to know. And, like you say, those that know you would laugh at the idea that you were anything but fair. You were lovely then and still are :-6

Seeing as i'm still a member here i think i'm entitled to ask a question or two ...

Can we have some statistics ...How many infractions have actually been handed out since their introduction and,how many of those infractions have been given to Mods....I'm just curious .

And while i'm at it... can i also ask about the privacy of the Mod lounge because i have actually seen first hand PMs from the Mod lounge where members are actively talking about keeping member accounts open so they can "play" with other member's... and also why are Mods sending copys of conversations (that are supposed to be private) out to ordinary members (if that's not rile people up ) ...i'm a bit confused :-3:confused:
Can go from 0 - to bitch in 3.0 seconds .:D
