I have such mixed feelings on this one Terri.

Women in India, if they choose, should have the right to be treated as human beings, and quite honestly the crimes that are committed against them are horrendous. However, I didn't like reading the fact that they have thrashed men and stormed police stations, attacking policemen - it takes a 'certain type' of person to do that. I realise they are trying to pay them back for years of abuse. Is there not another way to end their abuse? Attacking and thrashing is, after all, what they are fighting to be rid of.

You have good points, Pheasy. Those are some of the objections to general vigilantism. There's also the idea that you "have to fight fire with fire." I'm not sure how I personally feel about the police station. Although it did say that the police refused to apprehend an "untouchable" man so I assume he must either have money or be somehow above everyone else, like our pillars of society often are.

I'd like to know more about these particular women, if they're married and if their husbands support them in this, for instance.

The pink sorority is not exactly a group of male-bashing feminists - they claim they have returned 11 girls who were thrown out of their homes to their spouses because "women need men to live with".

There is a huge population of East Indians in Canada, and Vancouver has a very large share of it. I don't like to target any specific race, but East Indian men are very hard on their women from what I understand. In this past year alone, there have been three murdered east indian ladies by their husband's alone. I can't say I don't agree with these this woman's brigade - but I think what I would do if I was in an abusive relationship is wait till they were sleeping and then take a coke bottle to their head.

I don't pretend to know a lot about this situation. I cannot help thinking that if I lived there, I would want to join and support the group. However I would not want to join a group of women who run around promoting this kind of violence and gang thrashings. Would it not be better to work on getting more to join the 'cause', to work on re-educating the women and their daughters on 'human rights'. To recruit numbers to their cause, create 'safe houses' and to find in a far more constructive way, with a long-term objective in place.

If I went and beat to death someone who beat a child to death (and yes I would feel like doing it

) - yes, that would prevent him from doing it again - but would it prevent all humans from doing it. If I thrashed a person for thrashing a dog, would that, in the long run, help protect all animals from abuse. No! recruiting numbers to my cause and raising public awareness would have far more benefit in the long run.

More good points, Pheasy. I can't really argue with anything you've said. I guess I could say I feel that there is room for both factions. Like in animal welfare, you'll have the side that promotes education foremost, and there will also be the side that is a little more um...hands-on in its approach. There's this song that says "If the left one don't get ya then the right one will" and that's kind of how I feel. That one way or another, the point's going to be proven.

And even this Pink Brigade has room for improvement- I don't think it's very enlightening that they think women "need" men to live, so they have room for growth too.

I do agree if this is what they are thinking, then a little education within their own group would be beneficial too :wah:

I too think that this 'hands-on' approach is very useful - specially when dealing with the rescue of one or many. :-4

Not so backward as you might think. Both India and pakistan have had female prime ministers elected to office. Will the USA ever have a female president?

I think the US will eventually have a female president, gmc, but I don't see it happening soon and I truly don't think it will be Hillary. I'd like a woman president but I want someone who can do the job, not just someone who's a woman.

I may be the wrong person to ask about that but it could happen. I would be very surprised honestly, but I guess it's a possibility. I just (personally) don't think it's a big possibility. Someone else may think otherwise though.
