The world's most expensive cat

Post by Chezzie »

Meet the $22,000 designer cat that has become the latest exotic pet for fashionable homeowners in America.

The specially-bred Ashera is the largest, rarest and most exotic house cat in the world.

The pricey puss is a result of breeding the African Surval and the Asian Leopard cat with a domestic cat.

Bred by Los Angeles-based Lifestyle Pets, the company claims the Ashera "is a new ultra-exotic breed of domestic cat that already has wealthy animal devotees paying to get on the waiting list".

The modified moggy is similar to the average household cat in shape, and eats normal dried cat food.

But it has the markings of its wild cousins and is bigger, standing four feet high on its hind legs.

It can also grow up to weight a whopping 30 pounds.

Concerns have been expressed that the cat's wild ancestry may emerge as hyperactive behaviour when it is kept as a domestic house pet.

Bit in response to this, the developers have included ten years of sessions with a renowned animal behaviourist in the hefty price tag.

The cost of the cat includes nail caps to stop the kitten destroying furniture, hand delivery to the owner's home and a one-year guarantee.

Ashera fanciers can order the latest must-have pet through the website of California-based Lifestyle Pets.

But don't be in a hurry - there is a year-long wait to claim one of the special cats.

The Ashera was developed by British businessman Simon Brodie and his team of geneticists at a US lab.

A designer cat, that is going too far.

I say leave well enough along, what happens to one of the kitties given back on the guarentee?

It's a beautiful animal there's no doubt about that, buy I object to any animal being used as a fashion statement or a show of wealth by those who should know better but sadly don't.

Apart from that it smacks of the obscene when there are thousands of cats awaiting re-homing.

They're going to offer a hypoallergenic dog in 2009!

It is only for $15,000 though.

Oh, I should have copied the link, but just google Ashera for it.

I will take my kitty any day, and LP has a very valid point about homeless critters. The money could be better spent helping them.

If I could afford to spend 22k on a kitty trust me I would spend more money spent helping the homeless ones.

She's not a status symbol to me. She's a beautiful, hopefully domesticated animal.

Most domestic cats already have their way with their owners. (keepers)

Judging by the size of this beauty, (& it is a beauty) it will most certainly do whatever it pleases, no matter what the keeper wants it to do!!! The neighboring dogs & cats will definately give this jumbocat a wide berth!!! :-3

Chez, that's one beautiful animal, but the price:confused:

I'm seriously thinking about getting a putty kat maybe this summer. But, my problem is that some of my relatives who visit me during the year and especilly during the summer months are very allergic to cats....ha, ha, maybe they won't come to the shore if I do get a cat. Don't know what to do.

And here's the type of kitty I want and have already named her "Midnight." AND, it's all Jack's Dad's fault for starting the cat thread.....

I know what you mean Chez. Growing up we never had any pets because our parents always worked. My brother had asthma and nearly died when I took a cat into our 2 story home. My brother lived downstairs from our family , and the upstairs cat dander nearly did him in.

That's why I haven't gotten a cat .. now, dogs are lovely, but I'm so afraid of them and can't explain why. I watch the "Dog Whisperer" all the time hoping that my fear of dogs will go away...so far....NO....still wary....

The breeder ought to be shot. There are enough homeless cats dying every day without having to make a whole other breed.
