Joannee;721178 wrote: Hello once more to all my friends on this great thread, trusting everyone is well and will have a good weekend no matter where you are or what you are doing.;)Well after getting into a state earlier on this morning when I felt I was fighting a losing battle, :-5 I phoned the district nurses office at a surgery quite close to where I live (we have always been with the surgery in St Austell where we first registered in 1974).

Well the receptionist could see I was in a state and said she would get the district nurse to phone me which she did and because she understood my concern she came up to see me and has assessed Tony and after being told he is in their catchment area in any case, apparently it is where you live which decides where the district nurse is stationed.

During this time I also phoned my own surgery and told them I was disgusted with the way I had been left in the dark and about an hour after that my own doctor phoned and said I had been given wrong information almost two weeks ago by the R.A.T. team as the person whose name they said would be contacting me isn't the one who would help me, talk about a mess up.

Well to cut a long story short the relief I feel is great, the district nurse is coming again on Monday and Wednesday and I have a form to complete over the weekend to establish what type of pads etc that Tony needs and I also have to phone my own doctor who is 100% behind me and who said I shouldn't have had all this stress on top of everything else.

Like I have said many a time I am a tough old bird but today I felt enough was enough.

Thank you for all your messages of support they are very much appreciated.

Hope to be back later.

Joan xxOh good news Joan but I feel for you so much........you really dont deserve all this.Special love sent to you lovely dear ladyxxxx

Morning all :)

It's now 8:20am and it's been quite a pleasant morning compared to most

The kids were having breakfast, boogying to mika whilst i was feeding alyssa her breakfast.

Kayleigh made me chuckle, she was stood next to the chair, with toast in one hand and plastic plate in the other. Dylan started to annoy her so she wolloped him round the face with her plate :wah: she didn't hurt him, Dylan just went "oooooo" and they both laughed.

Then as i was giving Alyssa her breakfast, she had a mouth full and she sneezed, so i got covered in fruity yoghurty cereal...lol

So that's been my morning so far

Hope you are all having a nice morning xxx

Hello everybody ! What a wet old day, still - it seems we need the rain, but they say it may snow in some places (on higher ground).

Hi Kay, Kinks and Kaz (all the Ks ! ) .

I was just reminiscing, the other day, about my childhood. I was born in Nottingham, and lived in a detached house on a quiet road which bordered a beautiful park - Wollaton Park. Although we were lucky enough to have a fairly large garden to play in, my two older brothers and I used to spend much of our time playing in this park. There was (and of course still is) a beautiful mansion, called Wollaton Hall, which was built by Sir Francis Willoughby and completed in 1588. In the 1920s the Hall and grounds were handed over to the Nottingham City Council for the enjoyment of the Nottingham people, and visitors, and it was turned into a natural history museum.

There were extensive stables alongside the Hall, and these were used later on for the police horse section of the Nottingham constabulary. I can vaguely remember, as a small child, visiting these stables and being overwhelmed by the beauty of the magnificent horses that were stabled there. I can remember too the terribly sad day when one of these beautiful horses was killed whilst in the paddock field within the park. A youth had catapulted a stone at the horse, which reared up and crashed its head on an overhanging heavy branch of a tree - it died instantly. When I heard about this, I can still remember crying my eyes out - that horse, a gorgeous chestnut with a white flash down its nose, had been a particular favourite of mine. So you see, even back then there were unthinking idiots.

The stable block is to the left of the Hall and the Camelia House is to the right.

They used to hold the annual 'Bath and West Show' in Wollaton Park, and my mum, two brothers and I were walking round the area where they kept the various show animals, and we saw men milking Jersey cows, straight into the ground. Mum asked if she brought some containers would they allow her to take some milk home for her family. They were quite happy for that to happen and would be only too pleased that the milk didn't go to waste, as they had to milk the cows every day anyway. So for the duration of the show three youngsters, armed with jugs, and large bottles collected this delicious Jersey milk ! After the first day, there appeared quite a little army of people with jugs and bottles, much to the amusement of the farmers !

In winter, in those days when we used to get quite a lot of snow, my Dad made us a super sledge, that could seat three - made of wood with aluminium runners. If we weren't spending all our waking hours sledging down the hill from the Hall in Wollaton Park, Dad would tie a line to the sledge and give us rides up and down our road, towing us with his motor bike ! Great fun for us, but a bit 'iffy' for Dad !

At one side of the Hall there was the Camelia House, built in the 18 th century, of iron frame and glass. To me, as a very young child, it was enormous - like I imagined a forest would be - full of beautiful shrubs and small trees, and beautiful flowers that I had no idea what their names were. When I was a little older I used to go in there by myself and just sit on one of the many benches and enjoy the solitude. A few years ago, however, some enterprising yobs came into the park at night and systematically smashed this beautiful haven. Now, after a couple of years of the Camelia House being virtually derelict, it has been refurbished. Another lovely restful place at the back of the Hall, was a gold fish pond. It had the most magnificent carp in it, some of them must have been over a foot in length. I used to spend hours just watching these beautiful fish lazily sway through the weed and round the various integral rocks. Now, though, this large decorative pond is empty, the fish long gone. After numerous attacks on it by destructive idiots, who even poisoned these beautiful creatures, the management decided they just couldn't afford to keep repairing the pond and replacing the fish. It seems that anything beautiful is easy prey for these ?@*+!£#% . However, the Hall has recently undergone a £9 million refurbishment, and is open once again to visitors. The Camelia House is up and running, but unfortunately the fish pond is still empty. The Fallow and Red deer still roam throughout the acreage of the parkland, and the golf course is still active. And if we get snow this winter I bet the hill up to the Hall will be full of youngsters flying down on their various sledges ! But there are no more police horses there, as the stables were turned over to use as part of the Industrial Museum section. The police horses are now stabled in a village to the east of Nottingham, and have been for many years.

Apparently, during the war, American soldiers camped at Wollaton Park prior to the 'Invasion', on a temporary basis. There was also a P.O.W. establishment within the park walls, that housed mostly Italians, but some Germans.

American soldiers, in a 'temprary camp' in Wollaton Park' awaiting instructions for the 'Invasion' in 1944.

Hi Giggles:-4,

Thanks for your reply. I love Ireland because of the people. I have 3 very close cousins who are really like my sisters. We grew up together since I was 19 and we met when I first visited. Unfortunately, they've moved around a bit so there are too many places that I have to visit. So, often I'll rent a home in Donegal and they come to visit me. That way we all get a holiday. They live in Dublin, Clare, and Killarney. I have close friends and rellys in Donegal and Castlebellingham, Co. Louth

Hope you visit soon. It's a lovely place to see.

A drunk man in an Oldsmobile

They said had run the light

That caused the six-car pileup

On 109 that night.

When broken bodies lay about

And blood was everywhere,

The sirens screamed out eulogies,

For death was in the air.

A mother, trapped inside her car,

Was heard above the noise;

Her plaintive plea near split the air:

Oh, God, please spare my boys!

She fought to loose her pinned hands;

She struggled to get free,

But mangled metal held her fast

In grim captivity.

Her frightened eyes then focused

On where the back seat once had been,

But all she saw was broken glass and

Two children's seats crushed in.

Her twins were nowhere to be seen;

She did not hear them cry,

And then she prayed they'd been thrown

free,

Oh, God, don't let them die!

Then firemen came and cut her loose,

But when they searched the back,

They found therein no little boys,

But the seat belts were intact.

They thought the woman had gone mad

And was traveling alone,

But when they turned to question her,

They discovered she was gone.

Policemen saw her running wild

And screaming above the noise

In beseeching supplication,

Please help me find my boys!

They're four years old and wear blue

shirts;

Their jeans are blue to match.

One

cop spoke up, They're in my car,

And they don't have a scratch.

They said their daddy put them there

And gave them each a cone,

Then told them both to wait for Mom

To come and take them home.

I've searched the area high and low,

But I can't find their dad.

He must have fled the scene,

I guess, and that is very bad.

The mother hugged the twins and said,

While wiping at a tear,

He could not flee the scene, you see,

For he's been dead a year.

The cop just looked confused and asked,

Now, how can that be true?

The boys said, Mommy, Daddy came

And left a kiss for you.

He told us not to worry

And that you would be all right,

And then he put us in this car with

The pretty, flashing light.

We wanted him to stay with us,

Because we miss him so,

But Mommy, he just hugged us tight

And said he had

to go.

He said someday we'd understand

And told us not to fuss,

And he said to tell you, Mommy,

He's watching over us.

The mother knew without a doubt

That what they spoke was true,

For she recalled their dad's last words,

I will watch over you.

The firemen's notes could not explain

The twisted, mangled car,

And how the three of them escaped

Without a single scar.

But on the cop's report was scribed,

In print so very fine,

An angel walked the beat tonight on

Highway 109.
