Tourette's Syndrome
I have always found this disorder fascinating , as bad as I feel for the people who have it. Imagine being this guy and blurting out "FK 'EM!" in the market and having everyone turn and stare.....all the time. I am curious as to why so much foul language instead of common words? Does anyone know if they've found the cause of this yet?? Is it at all treatable?

This is the first I have ever heard of this illness. But while I was watching it, it reminded me of stroke victims. I have heard of people (and I know one man) who have had strokes doing this - randomly shout stuff and particularly 'curse' words. It must be a certain part of the brain that triggers it.

i know its wrong but i find this disorder really funny ,i think coz of the mortified looks on the parents and family of the sufferers :wah:
:wah: Seriously
Over the years I have had 'clean up the mess' behind my son. Usually where he has knocked things over (and then there was that time he sent condoms flying everywhere in a pharmacy). I just can't image having to deal with random 'F ems' and the occasional 'C' flying around :wah:

Jimbo- Tourette's posting disorder?? :wah:
I know it's bad but it first comes off funny to me as well but probably because it makes me uncomfortable. I've seen people in passing who have it and when they blurt out stuff, it's a natural reaction to look but then you realize what happened and you don't know where to look or what to do. And yeah the stares people give these poor people.
Pheas, that's funny about the condoms. I can just picture that.

It's not always cuss words they repeat. Some have severe physical ticks, and others just make horrid noises.

It must be really embarrassing, does anyone know if it is treatable.

I worked with a young man at a factory who would just shout, "DUCKY!"
So we would all shout, "DUCKY!"
Then he would do it again. So we would do it again.
This could go on for an entire afternoon.
We were all dying in tears of laughter. Including him.

I know they try to treat it with pills, and in extreme cases brain surgery. Saw this on a show.
There's a guy who comes on the radio show Opie and Anthony who has Tourettes. They always have a bag of the fun size Almond Joy's on hand, because the guy cannot just eat one, he'll eat the whole bag because he cannot stop himself.

I should add that this guy did it in sort of a Julia Child voice.
Which we of course mimicked.

:D Sounds like he had a good sense of humor. I guess you'd almost have to to deal with that.

Because of the Tourette's? Wow. I didn't know it could affect someone like that too, I just thought it was words and weird movements.

The guy's a comedian too. Think his name is Louie or Louis, I'll see if I can find something.

He did but I think it was more of a thing where you have forty men in one room shouting ducky like Julia Child you have no choice but to laugh.
We all loved him though.:wah:

I think that was a great thing to do - you made him feel okay about himself. So many would be nasty or act embarrassed, which I guess would cause more grief to the person. I bet he enjoyed coming to work :-6

Yeah, but we're not actually laughing at the person....it's just such a strange thing.

That's good that he would do that. I'm sure taking the pressure off others made it easier for him too.

like in everything else you have to look beyond the tourettes and see the person within..something that alot seem to miss..
