posting slow?
is anyone else experiencing extremely slow posting? i'm not sure if it's just me or my browser. when i hit the 'submit new thread', it takes almost a full minute for it to actually post and move to the next screen.

naturally of course, posting the above took all of five seconds. i wonder if it's related to how long a thread is.

The longest thread is the Word Association thread. I am on dialup now - I just posted there a few minutes ago. Took no more than 7 seconds to post and get a new screen.
You must have some kind of bogus wireless setup.

I am, also long time opening up the site as well. I have a broadband connection usually it takes a few seconds, just now about half a minute. Mind you I delete all cookies as a matter of course so I don't know if that is relevant, replying can take two to three minutes. Busy server?

the server does run a bit busy at this time of night - midnight to about 1am, pacific time, which would be about 8am to 9am greenwich time. but it's not performing slowly for me at the moment. there's a lot of latency on a cross atlantic, cross continent connection. current average latency over unburdened connection is running 153ms from london to here. add 40ms for your broadband connection, which would be about typical. so it'll feel like being on dialup, even under very good conditions.
two or three minutes to submit a reply isn't normal though.

i should clarify - the reason it runs busy is because many daily recurring maintenance processes run at that time.
