Foods that do not go together!

Post by Sheryl »

so what food combos will you not eat together..

I for one hate those fruit salads that are a combo of nuts, jello, and marshmellow. Sorry Lisa, your potluck recipe reminded me of this. :o

What kind of fruit salad has no fruit in it????

In Australia, fruit salad is a mixture of fruits ONLY. Though you might put a dollop of cream / ice cream or yoghurt on the top.

I'm criticized on occasion for what has to be the finest quick meal on the planet. I've been cooking this since I was at school and it still works. It's healthy, it's filling and it tastes great.

Melt butter in a pan and get it to sizzle but not brown. Throw in a standard tin of baked beans. They're meant to fry, not just boil, and it has to be butter not oil. Add a teaspoon each of thyme and paprika. Coat with Worcestershire sauce. When it's bubbling and greasy take off the heat, crack in an egg and stir to get it to set.

Serve on two slices of buttered toast with a thick pattern of salad cream swirled over once it's on the plate. Nobody in my family will even stay in the kitchen when I'm doing this, they say it's the combination that puts them off.

That actually doesn't sound too bad Spot, but I'm wondering how that egg looks when it's added. Is it gross looking? I'm big on food's appearance.

I don't care for nuts or raisins in my salad. Not crazy about Jello with fruit in it.

One thing I make that doesn't appeal to most people is my Special Sandwich.

It's white bread with mayo and taco sauce with American cheese and a slice of onion. Good stuff, Maynard!

Living in the southwest, they like to put corn in salsa out here. I don't care for that. I also don't like corn in black bean dishes. I do love corn on its own though.

Good topic, Sheryl :)

This is amazing, but I actually like the sound of Spot's concoction.

There's a whole food study thingie about stuff you shouldn't eat with other stuff... Combinings or something. I occasionally go to a spa place which practises this. I don't give a damn for the theory and don't need to shed weight, but the result always tastes awesome and I find after a few days I've lost a couple of kilos anyway. Maybe there is something in it.

I'd eat that too! Sometime around 6th grade I discovered that mayo and hot sauce on white bread made a really good sandwich and I still love the combo except now I like to add shredded lettuce to it as well....:o :D

I used to eat onion sandwiches all the time when I was younger. It used to make my parents mad because I was constantly running them out of onions. I made mine just like yours and thought I was the only one in the world who ever did it like that. Wow. Oh I did add pepper to moine.

Aussie beetroot is yummissimo. It's one thing I miss on a hamburger when I'm over the pond. (A good aussie burger is of course also not made with a steamed bun, but with crusty bread). One day at a buffet salad bar I found what looked like beetroot and took some.... It must have been that pickled stuff... ERK Totally barfiferous.

I'm with you all on tripe.

Combinations that for me are a culinary orgasm:

Ricotta cheese and fresh figs

Thick yoghurt with honey

Red leicester cheese

Almonds and muscatel raisins

Souffle omelette aux cepes

Crusty bread and fresh goats cheese with grapes

A mango or banana smoothie

I like this also actually. Mild bananas and spicy salsa, yum. But most of the time I also include tortilla chips, maybe a pb&j sandwich. Sometimes chocolate milk as well.

Eww! to most of these. Also, I have left over meat loaf tonite, and I asked Hubby - mashed potatoes or rice - he says I know you won't like this, but how about perogies?? No, we don't have sour cream in the house, etc. etc. And you all are siaying WTF are perogies. They are a potatoe and cheese encased dumpling, that a lot of Canadians eat with fried onion & bacon . Dolloped with sourcream and sometimes strawberry jam, yum it is good - but not with meatloaf!!

:wah: well when your in school and lunch that day was hamburgers with plain chips and peach halves, you have to get creative if you want dip for your chips. Peach syrup and chips was better than chips and mustard.

my grandma was the one to turn me onto crackers and thousand island dressing, it's pretty good for a quick snack.
