How utterly irritating that you get to take such a fabulous trip to a truly magnificent destination and I can go nowhere!:yh_silent I can feel the envy squirting out my ears!!!!! Have a great trip and think of me sitting in Kansas City while you're there!:yh_glasse Pictures would SLAY me! Get one of yourself as well! Some Communist monuments would be most appreciated!!:yh_pray I picture you looking like an angry somewhat unkempt Johnny Depp!! Travel safe.

My times and dates are all screwed up. I think in the last week I have slept about 20 hours total. Bear with me.
Stayed in the Gamma hotel at Izmailova Park. A decent place next to a huge market. The Market itself is about 3 square miles and the sell everything you can imagine from all over Russia and the far east, next to the market is the park. It is huge, at least the size of the market with a beautiful church about 400 years old. Dirt paths all around the lake and through the park. I got lost in the market and had to find my way out through the soccar stadium.
My other half flew in Friday night and since we had the weekend and Monday off we caught the train back to Smolensk, a beautiful city founded in 1142. The 400 year old wall is still largely intact and well cared for. The city is clean and beautiful and the Russians kind and helpful to a fault.
We stayed in the Center Hotel, really nice rooms and a double was just $40 a night. The central park was out the front door and there was a beautiful open air restaurant right in the middle of it. We ran across a pack of Russian teens singing for money in the park. They knew the tune "Start Me Up" by the Stones. We bought them dinner and gave them a 100 rubles each. Katya and Anna met us at noon Sunday and gave us the grand tour of the city, all the good views. My camera quit halfway through. :yh_frustr
They took us to the local market and we paid them 1500 rubles each for their services which they promptly spent on cloths and cosmetics. We then went to the train station to get our tickets and after standing in line for 20 minutes found out SHE WHO IS ALWAYS RIGHT DID NOT HAVE THE PASSPORTS!!!!
We got the tickets the next day. The whole trip was all good, the weather was beautiful 75 and a few clouds. Russians were digging their gardens in their bathing suits.
Gotta go.How Cool!!!!!! Say hello to Russia for me!!!! I hope you weren't offended about my Johnny Depp comment!!! Do you know how close I am to 1000 posts!!!!!!!!!
