What's your opinion of this device - and people using it?

Sanders Li's paper plate held nothing but a crumpled napkin. His meal finished, he lingered. His unblinking eyes gazed at Sex and the City on a 15-inch color TV over the counter at Nizario's Pizza on 18th Street in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood Sunday evening.

In the middle of a scene, the TV turned off.

Today's the Day. For 10 seconds, Li kept looking, waiting, not blinking through his glasses. At last, he left his stool, trashed his plate and emerged into the cool autumn night.

Leaving, he passed 48-year-old Mitch Altman, who was twiddling a matte-black plastic fob on his key chain. Altman's blue and purple hair reflected the pizza shop's neon, and he was smiling excitedly.

Except for that pro-life thing. Oh, and the 10 commandments in an Alabama courthouse thing. Perhaps the proposed amendment to the Constitution thing.

People who impose their values on anyone else are despicable. I totally agree with that. I just find that superiority exists in human nature in general, not in a specific political party. (That was badly phrased, my apologies.)

Before it's assumed I'm a liberal, I belong to no party. I'm not very comfortable with the bible-thumping values of the far right, nor am I happy with the "money is bad, I should help everybody to alleviate my own guilt for any success" nonsense from the left.

No offense intended; that's just my quick-and-dirty take on both extremes.

About the tv controller - that would be a great thing for parents. I can't think of any other real benefit. But...if that guy comes and turns my tv off for me, I'd be forced to b****-slap him. :D

Thanks for the post back. I'm impressed by what you said; now I'm grinning all sappy-like.

Personally, I think it's a shame it doesn't make the set implode. However,

there's a great option to avoid places like this which "that sort" of people

like - just don't go there, or if you do, ask that the thing be switched off -

if it isn't, tell them why, and leave.

I turned our TV off for 10 years once. People kept asking how we had so much time to do things. I turned it back on again to watch the election coverage. The message was clear to me that I had done the wrong thing when Clinton won anyway. I’m going to give some serious thought to turning it off again. Those were the good old days.

You know, this comes across as flirting. I was really just being a smart aleck. I didn't realize how it sounded when I posted it, now I'm embarrassed...and slinking off
