Miserable Cashiers....

Post by Pheasy »

Don't you just love em!!

Now I HATE grocery shopping - No I DETEST grocery shopping. So I try and amuse myself to make the whole sorry ordeal more pleasurable. And that normally means me tracking down the most miserable looking cashier I can see (usually the same ones).

Now I'm usually a pretty bouncy kinda of person anyway, but as some of you already know I have been on this get healthy 'thing', and well lets just say I make Tigger on steriods look like a tortoise :D

So after locating my miserable cashier (who has probably already spotted me bouncing towards him/her, and are busy trying to slide under their desk, whilst pushing their 'LANE CLOSED' sign along the conveyor belt), I will launch into my 'happy, happy, can't stop chatty' mode. Now this will have one of two effects, they either, will eventually start chatting back (even breaking into would could be described as a sort of smile :-3) or continue to be miserable, with the odd grunt as a reply to my chirpy questioning.

Either way I had fun and as I leave the store (trying to put aside the thought of, Loading Car - Unloading Car - putting stuff away), take great pleasure in thinking I either made someone a little happier, or irritated the crud out of them. :D

:-6

Okay, so anyone else have any other suggestions or experiences when dealing with that 'miserable cashier' ?

Oh, I hate grocery shopping - I wait until I'm down to 1 egg left..

So, I'm at the check out the clerk goes into this motivated sales pitch.

Clerk says, would you like to donate to - NO, the clerk contines where she left off.

Would like to donate NO, I'm fumbling around for my card & money and I thought I'd put a end to this sales pitch.

Clerk starts again - would like to donate to the childrens school - - - -.

I said look I'm worried about how smart I am - kids have computers

all I had was a Pee Chee...!!

Now don't take this story wrong - I donate to organization of my choice.

Customers behind me were laughing.

I do all the grocery shopping and love it. I know every inch of the super market and exactly where to find what I want. I never make a shopping list because I know just what is needed and can get the job done in 20 minutes or less while spending at least $100 per visit. The cashiers are all pleasant and friendly as are the butchers and green grocers. Too bad this is such a miserable experience for some of you. Could it be that you find the cashiers MISERABLE because you your self are miserable about shopping?:D

I don't enjoy grocery shopping - I know the lay out of my stores and I can whip thru in 20 minutes.

I find grocery shopping alot of work - shopping, hauling, loading, unloading and putting the items away once home. Its especially miserable at 120 degrees outside. And I usually need to take a break once home - I hurt - its a job..

I find the majority of cashiers are miserable - they work with the public, some never smile.

I quess they need to go to a PR seminar.

You need to switch to "Safeway" Patsy, their folks have all been to Sensitivity Training. They are so polite and courteous it's almost sickening.

I am a chatty person too. I'm one of these people that will talk to you while we look at the cereal in the isle together. like you said somtimes people will talk back other times they act like I am speaking another language.

Maybe they are just lost in thought.

I have been shopping at the same store for years. I always try to go to the cashier I know is friendly. If I have to go to another one, I still try to make small talk. but usually I'm just wasting my time.

I've found that it's only a few who seem truly miserable. Most are just tired of being on their feet all day, are worried about their bills or their kids or other problems, just the usual. I try to be extra nice to those people. I try to find something to compliment them on because it's always fun when I say something nice and a smile washes over their face. Then they smile at the next customer and some of that rubs off.

I do not have a financial interest in Safeway Markets, so my plug for their outstandingly friendly and courteous employees is not self serving. For those of you that have access to the Safeway Markets, give them a try and let me know if you don't agree.

Your right Safeway is overly nice - check out and they thank you using your last name.

Alot of your stores now have greeters - as soon as you enter the store the greeter welcomes you and asked if they can help you in anyway.

For some reason I usually get this one miserable checker (not at Safeway) she's civil just not real friendly.

Red - I'm sure her feet hurt - her back hurts etc. she does her job - she does a good job just never smiles.

Naturally I never have 15 items or less - and I seem to always get in her line.

Well at least I'm getting to know her.

I've been on both sides of that checkout line. I worked with a girl who was, and still is, totally miserable with her job. More than 2 customers at a time just throws her whole mood. I loved it, loved most of the customers, but you'd get that one. THE one. The type where you could bend over backwards, stand on your head and spit quarters, and it still was not going to satisfy them. It was tough as hell not to let that one customer ruin your mood and your day. If I get a miserable cashier, I usually just say, "Bad day huh? Been there, done that." For every one miserable customer, there was at least 5 that could make me smile again. I try to be that one that makes the whole crappy day worth it.

Guppy

you reminded me - me & a friend were shopping went by the candle display, started grabbing & smelling all the different scents.

There was one scent that stood out - friend says - try this one - try this - we were laughing a couple of other ladies were laughing at us.

Then I realised it was this ladies perfume

we laughed
