I wanted to play a game one day, in hopes that I could win it,
And yearned to find a worthy battle somewhere left unfinished,
And as I whiled away the day I found beside a church,
A set of crouquet hoops and hammers upon the sidewall perched,
I set the game upon the yard where green the grasses grow,
But could not start, however smart, without a worthy foe,
I looked about with cunning wit for a fellow croquet crook,
And quickly surmised to sneek inside and so inside I snook,
Or so I tried, but just outside, the ladies came a crowin',
Tryin' to catch the flyin' flowers the lovely bride was throwin',
But as I was a crook enough to steal upon crouquet,
I thrust myself and made the route in snatching the bouquet,
I proudly flouted while the ladies pouted, and boldly made my claim,
"As custom grants I'll take the bride, if that is all the same!"
But custom wasn't what I thought, infact it was contrary,
Closer to their custom was the groom for me to marry,
I quickly threw the flowers back, proper to the bride,
In hopes that so this custom theirs, proper would subside!

The Flower Crook
yeah I'd better space the lines out.
I wrote this poem about a year ago, and it used to have a different ending, but I rewrote the ending at a poetry meeting, the last 5 lines were reworked right before the meeting

The Flower Crook
Mr. A sends flowers to Mrs. W at work. They have arranged already to have dinner that night.
As Mrs. W is leaving work she is splashed by a car. Her muddied appearance and the flowers in her hand make her look like a poor flower girl.
A Mr. G offers to buy the flowers from her, and Mrs. W accepts the offer so that she can by a new dress before dinner.
Mrs. W arrives before Mr. A, and when they have both arrived they are taken to table #1 which is decorated with the flowers, because Mr. G was the owner of the restaurant.
Mrs. W says she had been tired of holding them and had set them there to hold the table.
When time comes for them to leave the restaurant, Mr. A picks up the flowers from the table and takes them out of the restaurant, and so becomes a thief...
or a flower crook,
(I think a woman holding flowers and being splashed by a car and looking like a flower girl might have precedence somewhere. It seems like a familiar joke to me.)
