You don't look a day over 24. I think you faked your age in hope of early retirement. I think I will send the government a picture of that flat stomach of yours and tell them you are a lying little wench.

I had to eat a massive bowl of ice cream because... there wasn't enough left to make another bowl full. :o That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

We could plan an event together seeing as how I know lots intresting stuff you might enjoy learning.;)Shall I post one of my boring rambles, just for fun? To do, I think, with "Deo Volente", said by the pious when proposing some future act and often abreviated "d.v.". I shall, one says, do such-and-such, d.v., meaning "If God is willing that I should". These days it would be associated more as a mental act of piety within Islam than within most strands of mainstream Christianity but we've fallen off over the years, piousness isn't what it used to be.

Anyway, in the Old West the equivalent phrase extended to "God willing and the Creek don't rise", and note the capital C on Creek. This is nothing to do with travel disruption during heavy rain, this is a reference to the Creek Nation and the possibility of ambush to the wagon trains.

Some wag at the time varied this into a distinctly literary "Beware of Creeks bearing gifts" as a warning to the settlers, and this became a regular jokey aphorism or proverb for generations of mid-Western Americans. His joke was the one-letter shift he'd applied to the far older "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts", a reference to "Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes" - "I fear the Greeks, even when they bring gifts" - which is said in Virgil's Aeneid by Laocoon when the Greeks presented the Trojans with a large wooden horse. The Greeks, you'll remember, infiltrated the defenses of Troy by offering mock conciliatory friendship in this way to lower the Trojans' guard, and then slaughtered the inhabitants. Beware of Greeks bearing gifts, indeed.

Nought from the Greeks towards me hath sped well.

So now I find that ancient proverb true,

Foes' gifts are no gifts: profit bring they none.
