Yeh - I'm counting down with you - I leave for Hawaii Oct. 27th.

Halloween is like Mardi Gra - up & down Waikiki Beach, great time..

Hallowe'en is my all time favorite day. I don't know what I'm doing this year. If my friend and I can find somewhere to go that isn't a total boozefest we'll probably do that. In costume maybe. I have my Hallowe'en rituals I do every year, and I will carve pumpkins and roast their seeds. I'll do tarot readings and watch a whole week of ghost marathons on TV! :D

I regret that it's only a day instead of a three month long affair like Christmas is. It's too cool for just one day.

RE D - Angeleyes

How do you cook your pumpkin seeds? anything special when roasting them?

I love them - never tried to do it myself.

I saw the news - Pumpkins will be very expensive this year.. true story

I clean my seeds and put them wet into a glass baking dish or a metal pie pan and I either drizzle olive oil over them or put blobs of butter in the pan and stir them up as they bake so they're all coated and don't burn. I salt them while they're still moist. :)

My friend made seeds - some time back - delicious.

Thanks RED - do they turn brownish or not - bake for how long?

I might bake some this year - I loved 'em.

Ooo, I never thought of garlic salt or onion powder. I might have to try that out.

I actually can't remember Patsy, but I'm thinking I do mine at more like 300 or 350 for 30 minutes...? Like Susie said, they turn a nice golden brown color. They beat all heck out of those seeds in the store that taste like drywall. :p

You can also roast cataloupe, honeydew and squash seeds. Like butternut squash, in the same way.

It does seem to be a more US type thing - I celebrate the day but not as Halloween, it has more ancient meanings and reasons to mark the day as something special.

One year I made ten pumpkins for coworkers. They were so cool. But my hand fell off from all that carving.
